Pakistan condemns attack on Saudi Hospital in Sudan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday condemned the attack at a Saudi hospital in El Fasher city of Sudan which killed around 70 people, calling it a clear violation of international law.

“The attack leading to the unfortunate deaths reportedly of seventy people clearly violates international law and puts innocent civilians at grave risk. Pakistan extends its deepest sympathies to the victims and their families,” according to a Foreign Office statement.

It said that the attack underscored the urgent need to uphold the sanctity of healthcare facilities and adhere to the principles of international humanitarian law.

“Pakistan believes that the conflict can only be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. We express our full support for the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sudan,” the statement added.

According to US media, a Saudi hospital has been targeted in a drone attack on a hospital in Darfur area of ​​Sudan, which has confirmed the killing of 70 people so far.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry said the attack on the hospital in western Sudan violates international law.

A suicide bombing outside the Afghan Foreign Ministry in Kabul has caused a number of casualties.

“I saw the man blowing himself up,” said Jamshed Karimi, a driver who was waiting outside the ministry.

The structure itself didn’t seem to have sustained much harm. Window panes at the adjoining interior ministry were also broken by the blast.
However, the Italian humanitarian organization Emergency NGO in Kabul reported that it had received more than 40 wounded individuals and that the number of casualties was still rising.

Isis-K said in a post on Telegram that the blast killed at least 20 people. It also said “several ‘diplomatic’ employees” were among the dead, in a claim that could not be independently verified.

According to earlier reports, the Chinese delegation was scheduled to meet with Afghan government representatives inside the foreign ministry building at the time of the incident.

However, a top official in the prime minister’s office confirmed to sources that there were no foreigners there.

In recent months, a number of attacks have targeted foreigners or foreign targets.

Correspondents say that the Taliban tend to underplay casualty figures in such incidents.

According to reporters, the Taliban frequently exaggerate the number of casualties in these situations.
