PDM Will Remain United On A Larger Agenda, Maryam Nawaz

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz has on Monday (today) lambasted the incumbent government over demanding the resignation of the ECP chairman and its members.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore, Maryam Nawaz said that the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has summoned a meeting on Tuesday, March 16 to review the matter of the resignations.

She added, “We will try to persuade those who do not agree to resign.”

“Pakistan will move towards a better future,” she added.

“The PDM is a coalition of 10 parties and remains united on a larger agenda,” she said, adding, “Tomorrow’s meeting will see what strategy the PML-N has to adopt”.

The PML-N leader went on to add, “The hope is that all PDM parties will understand the sensitivity of the situation.”

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz has on Thursday lambasted the incumbent government after Prime Minister Imran Khan announced to seek the vote of confidence from National Assembly (NA) after PPP’s Yousaf Raza Gilani secured victory against PTI leader Hafeez Sheikh.

While addressing a rally in Islamabad, Maryam Nawaz said that the ones who tried to break PML-N have gone weaken now.

She further added, “I pay tribute to all 83 parliamentarians who accepted Nawaz Sharif’s narrative.”

“Our parliamentarians observed discipline and voted for Yousaf Raza Gilani,” added Maryam.

Speaking about her father, the PML-N leader added that Nawaz Sharif is a ‘trendsetter’.

“Whenever he decides to do something, the PML-N supremo does so,” she added.

Taunting the Prime Minister over his demand for vote of confidence, she said, “How could he seek a vote of confidence from his own people after accusing them of selling out for money?”

The Vice President questioned, “Where will you secure the vote of confidence of the masses, who defeated you in the recent by-elections?”

Maryam said that whenever the upcoming polls are held, the PML-N will sweep them.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has on Thursday held a telephonic conversation with Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi post-Senate Elections 2021, which took place on Wednesday.

PM Imran, during his call, thanked Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi for his role in getting all the Senate candidates elected unopposed from Punjab.

New Senate Members To Be Sworn In On March 12

The successful new members of the Senate will take oath on March 12, the Senate Secretariat has announced here on Thursday.

The occupancy of the former and retiring senators will end on March 11. However, the oath taking ceremony will take place on March 12 in the morning.

While, the election for the Senate chairman and deputy chairman will be held the same afternoon, Senate Secretariat added.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Imran Khan has nominated Sadiq Sanjrani as the new Senate Chairman.

“Prime Minister Ìmrañ Khan has announced Sadiq Sanjrani for Senate Chairmanship,” a tweet by Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz read.

Earlier in July 2019, the opposition had submitted a resolution of no-confidence against Sadiq Sanjrani as a first-step towards mounting pressure on the PTI-led coalition government.

However, Sanjrani survived the no-trust vote after 14 lawmakers from the opposition ditched their party leadership by either voting against their own resolution or deliberately wasting their votes.

Complete polling for the 37 seats during the Senate Elections 2021 has come to an end and the counting has begun.

According to details, the doors of the National Assembly (NA) Hall have been shut after the end of polling time.

However, Results for the Senate Elections have started pouring in as counting of votes continue.

The voting process was held under the supervision of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) with a total of 78 candidates contesting from Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Islamabad. The counting of votes is currently underway.

The woman seat from Islamabad is earned by PTI’s Fauzia Arshad who secured 174 votes while Opposition’s Farzana Kausar gained 164 votes.

Yousaf Raza Gilani Vs Abdul Hafeez Sheikh

After a major electoral battle, former Prime Minister and Opposition Leader Yousaf Raza Gilani secures victory against the ruling party’s Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh.

Yousaf Raza Gilani has gained 169 votes whereas Abdul Hafeez Shaikh could only gain 164 votes.

Soon after the announcement, SAPM Shahbaz Gill jumped in via his tweet to challenge Gilani’s victory.

In the Balochistan Assembly all 65 members cast their votes, with the last vote was cast by Mir Hamal Kalmati of the BNP.

Independent candidate Abdul Qadir, JUI-F’s Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri and BNP’s Muhammad Qasim have each been elected to a general seat.

In the Sindh Assembly, 167 out of 168 members cast their votes as Jamaat-e-Islami member Abdul Rashid did not cast his vote.

MQM’s candidate for a women’s seat Khalida Ateeb won with 57 votes, while PPP’s Palwasha Khan also won with 60 votes.

In the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, 140 votes out of 145 have been cast so far, with members present in the hall continuing to cast their remaining ballots.

Voting Opens

The voting process has begun at 9AM at the Parliament House. Shafiq Arain of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was the first lawmaker who cast his vote in the Senate elections followed by PTI’s Faisal Vawda.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had announced that the polls will be held as provided in the Constitution and Law as per past practice. According to the official announcement, ECP is taking all possible steps and measures to complete its constitutional duty to check that corrupt practices in the Senate polls are guarded against.

The voting process in the Senate can be complex and it only involves our elected representatives.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is likely to become the largest party in the upper house with 28 seats after the Senate Election 2021, while the number of government and opposition members in the 100-member house is expected to be almost equal.

PPP is likely to become the second-largest party with 19 seats, PML-N third with 18 seats, and Balochistan Awami Party fourth with 12 seats.

According to Election Commission officials, elections will be held for 48 Senate seats this time. There will be no elections for FATA seats, which will reduce the number of Senate seats from 104 to 10.

Prime Minister Imran Khan is quite angry after PTI MNA Shehryar Afridi wasted his vote after he mistakenly signed the ballot paper at the Senate Elections.

Shehryar Afridi has on Wednesday reportedly earned PM Imran’s ire as he requested the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to let him cast his vote afresh.

“It is submitted that I have been feeling unwell for the past few days and couldn’t attend the meetings of the party for preparations of elections,” Afridi said in a letter to the ECP.

Commenting over the entire situation, the premier said, “You are an MNA. How can you make a mistake like this?” he told Afridi.

“Everyone was informed about the voting procedure [beforehand]. You shouldn’t have made a mistake like this,” he added angrily.

However, polling for 37 seats of the Senate is underway under the supervision of the Election Commission. A total of 37 senators will get elected.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Imran Khan has casted his vote in the Senate elections being held in Islamabad. He also interacted with the MNAs of PTI and allied parties.

On the occasion, the Opposition members present in the hall raised slogans against the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

However, Imran Khan left shortly to his chambers after casting his vote.
