RAWALPINDI: Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and Rawalpindi Police successfully thwarted a massive disaster at Adiala jail and arrested three terrorists.

Rawalpindi Police has claimed that the Adiala Jail has been saved from a major disaster by the joint action of the Police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).

During the joint operation, three foreign terrorists were arrested and a map of Adiala Jail, automatic weapons and a huge amount of ammunition were recovered from their custody.

City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Khalid Hamdani said that Rawalpindi Police and CTD conducted a joint operation in which three terrorists were arrested. The arrested three terrorists belong to Afghanistan, heavy weapons and ammunition have also been recovered from the possession of the terrorists.

CPO Rawalpindi said that a map of Adiala jail, hand grenades, ISDs and automatic weapons have been recovered from the terrorists.

He said that the arrested accused are being further investigated while the police and other law enforcement agencies have started a search operation around the Adiala Jail.

UNDP-UNAIDS organises consultative session on HIV/AIDS

KARACHI:  In a collaborative effort, United Nations Development Programme(UNDP)- United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS(UNAIDS) organized a consultative session at the CPO in Karachi.

The session aimed to address the critical issue of HIV stigma and discrimination, with the valuable support of law enforcement agencies.

Attended by approximately 85 officials, including representatives from the Motorway Police, Railways Police, NAB, IB, Sindh Police, CDS HIV, UNDP, UNAIDS, and various healthcare professionals, the event proved to be an important platform for discussions on strategies and the way forward.

Under the skillful moderation of Ms. Fahimda from UNAIDS, the session generated fruitful discussions centered around combating stigma and creating a secure, supportive environment for individuals affected by HIV. Ms. Fahimda underscored the significance of understanding the spread of HIV and implementing effective measures to curb it.

Furthermore, Mr. Rajwal, also from UNAIDS, emphasized the pillars of “awareness, effective communication, and inclusivity” as crucial elements in countering stigma.

Earlier, the session was inaugurated by IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon, who stress the urgent need for comprehensive guidelines to enhance the sensitivity and responsiveness of law enforcement agencies towards HIV-related stigma. He expressed his commitment to including awareness programs in policing and training institutes, recognizing the importance of law enforcement personnel’s role in tackling the issue.

Dr. Syed Kaleem Imam, a law enforcement specialist, advocated for a thoughtful and innovative approach towards HIV victims, stressing the necessity of a comprehensive curriculum, a cohesive national plan, and a uniform mechanism to alleviate stigma and discrimination.

Zubair Habib, Chief of CPLC, emphasized the importance of building an inclusive society that treats individuals living with HIV with dignity and respect.

Dr. Junaid and Tarik Malik highlighted the crucial role of raising awareness among law enforcement personnel and the public regarding HIV. They recognized the potential of the police in curbing the HIV epidemic and stressed the need for their active engagement.

Ms. Yuki Takemoto, Country Director of UNAIDS, proposed a holistic and multisectoral approach to address the issue. She emphasized the importance of understanding the spread of HIV and the necessary steps to combat it.

The closing session featured Ghazi Sala-Uddin, renowned journalist as the chief guest, who emphasized the pivotal role of first responders in battling stigma and discrimination. He underscored that informed and compassionate actions by law enforcement can significantly contribute to reducing HIV-related stigma.

CM Sindh offers funeral prayer of KPO attack martyred

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah offered Namaz-e-Jinaza of two police constables, Ghulam Abbas Leghari, and Mohammad Saeed and attended the funeral service of sweeper Ajmal Masih who laid their lives while fighting against the terrorists who attacked Karachi Police Office (KPO) on Friday evening.

The Namaz-e-Jinaza and funeral service were held at Central Police Office (CPO) on Saturday afternoon and were attended by Minister Labour Saeed Ghani, Corps Commander Karachi, Lt Gen Babar Iftikhar, family members of shuda and members of civil society.

The namaz-e-Jinaza and funeral service was organized with official protocol and the coffins of the shuda were draped with the national flag. The CM, Corps Commander, Chief Secretary, and IG Police carried the coffins in the funeral procession.

The chief minister met with the family members of the shuda and gave them consolation. He told them that their families would be looked after properly as was being done during their services.

The chief minister sent the flag-draped coffins of shuhda – Ghulam Abbas, Mohammad Saeed, and Ajmal Massih to Larkana, Korangi, and Faisalabad respectively for their burial.

He said that the policemen, rangers, and the Pak army fought bravely with the terrorist who attacked KPO and killed them. Their sacrifice would be remembered in history. He added that the Sweeper of KPO Ajmal Massih also laid his life and proved that there was no need for any designation or responsibility to fight against the enemy but every citizen and official needed to fight in his personal capacity against the enemies of the state and our people.

Earlier, the CM also offered Namaz-e-Jinaza of Rangers Sub-inspector Taimur who also embraced shahadat while fighting against the terrorists at KPO.
