Ever since his breakthrough role in Baahubali, Prabhas has emerged as a pan-India star with immense fan expectations for every film he features in. However, his recent projects, such as Radhe Shyam and Adipurush, failed to live up to box office expectations. As a result, the actor has taken a major decision that has affected his rumored action film with Siddharth Anand.

After the underwhelming performance of Om Raut’s Adipurush, which was among the biggest and costliest films, reports suggest that Prabhas has decided to steer clear of Bollywood filmmakers for the time being. Instead, he plans to focus on projects from the South and has no interest in hearing scripts from Bollywood.

Prabhas’ decision has also led to the shelving of his much-anticipated film with director Siddharth Anand. Pinkvilla exclusively revealed that Anand has returned his remuneration of Rs 65 crore to Mythri Productions as the project has been put on hold.

One of the primary reasons for the film’s postponement was the unavailability of matching dates between Siddharth Anand and Prabhas. Both these talented individuals have packed schedules for the next few years, leaving them unable to find a common window for their collaboration.

Amid these developments, Prabhas is currently busy with his upcoming project, Kalki 2898 AD, directed by Nag Ashwin. The film, recently unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con, has generated significant buzz, boasting a star-studded cast that includes Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Disha Patani in leading roles.

Additionally, the actor has lined up other exciting ventures, including Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit and a Telugu comedy film helmed by director Maruthi.

Despite the recent setbacks, Prabhas remains a sought-after actor, and his fans eagerly await his future endeavors, especially those from the Southern film industry. As the pan-India star continues to take on challenging roles and ventures, audiences remain hopeful for his return to the blockbuster success that has defined his career so far.

Adipurush, the much-anticipated mythological epic led by Prabhas, witnessed a short-lived run at the box office, ultimately succumbing to disappointing numbers by the end of its second week. Despite a promising opening day with an impressive collection of Rs. 84 crores, the film’s fate took a turn for the worse as audience reception proved catastrophic, leading to its downfall. Although the Ramayana theme initially attracted viewers, the film failed to deliver on expectations, sealing its demise.

Adipurush carried a hefty budget of Rs. 300 crores, not including Prabhas’ remuneration, which was reportedly settled in South Indian theatrical rights sold for Rs. 150 crores. Despite recoveries of Rs. 365 crores, including Rs. 200 crore from digital, satellite, and music rights, the film incurred substantial losses of over Rs. 80 crores. To mitigate these losses, there were attempts at deal renegotiations, and Prabhas himself took a cut from his share of profits, but the burden remained.

The film’s subject matter presented a missed opportunity, as even a modestly positive reception could have catapulted it to great heights. Following the massive success of Baahubali, Prabhas faced a series of underperforming films that struggled to resonate with audiences, hindering the potential for Adipurush’s success. His upcoming project, Salaar, directed by Prashant Neel of KGF fame, carries high expectations, and the industry hopes for a positive reception to revive the box office’s fortunes.

“Adipurush,” the highly anticipated mythological epic starring Prabhas, has completed its theatrical run in most parts of India, except for the Telugu states where it continues to generate collections. The film has amassed an impressive total of approximately Rs. 304 crore at the Indian box office so far, with expectations of adding another crore or two in the coming days.

While “Adipurush” enjoyed a promising start on its opening day, it faced challenges due to mixed audience reception, resulting in a significant decline in its overall performance. The film experienced more significant setbacks in the Hindi belt, where initial interest in the Ramayana theme gradually waned. However, the Telugu states managed to maintain a better box office trend compared to the Hindi belt, showcasing a higher degree of sustained audience turnout.

In the Telugu states, “Adipurush” has grossed Rs. 128.50 crores in 19 days of release, making it the thirteenth highest-grossing film in the region. It also claims the distinction of being Prabhas’ highest-grossing non-Baahubali franchise film, surpassing the earnings of “Saaho.” The film has achieved a distributor share of Rs. 71 crores, although this falls short of recuperating the distributor’s investment, resulting in a loss of over Rs. 50 crores.

Among the top grosser, two films by SS Rajamouli stand out, while there is a significant gap between the rest, with no film surpassing the 200-crore mark. Despite the eight-year gap since its release, the first “Baahubali” film continues to hold a prominent position. It is worth noting that ticket prices have significantly increased since the release of the first “Baahubali,” particularly in Telangana, where prices have tripled. However, Andhra Pradesh experienced a partial reversal of this trend due to government regulations last year. The coming year holds promise with several big releases, including “Pushpa 2,” “Salaar,” “Project K,” “Devara,” and “Game Changer,” with hopes that most, if not all, will surpass the Rs. 200 crore mark.

Self-described film critic Umair Sandhu tweeted, “BREAKING NEWS: #KritiSanon & #Prabhas will be engaged next week in Maldives!!” that set the whole thing off. I’m really glad for them. Earlier, after the publication of the Adipurush teaser, dating rumors between Kriti and Prabhas began to circulate. Kriti’s coworker Varun Dhawan from the film Bhediya added fuel to the fire by making romantic hints. He omitted Prabhas’ name, nevertheless.

Kriti vehemently denied any such rumors at the time, but Prabhas’ camp responded to reports of an engagement this time. According to his group, Prabhas and Kriti are merely friends. It’s not true what was reported about them being engaged.

Varun Dhawan had previously been asked by Karan Johar to suggest “suitable single women from the Hindi film business” on a show. “Kriti ka naam isiliye nahi tha kyunki Kriti ka naam kisi ke dil me hai,” he reasoned as he crossed Kriti off the list. Mumbai me nahi hai, vo Deepika (Padukone) ke saath iss waqt shooting kar raha hai. (Kriti’s name is missing from this list because it is on someone’s heart. That man is currently filming with Deepika, thus he is not in Mumbai.

Later, Kriti stated on her Instagram Stories, “Our Bhediya just got a bit out of control on a reality show. It’s neither pyaar (love), not PR. And his witty remarks sparked some howl-arious rumors (woman facepalming emoji). Let me break your bubble before some portal publishes the date of my wedding. The rumors are ENTIRELY untrue! (Hands folded and shrugging emoji)

In the meantime, Om Raut is the director of Adipurush, which is produced by T Series and Retrophiles. The movie is expected to premiere on June 16, 2023. The epic Ramayana is the basis for the movie. Saif Ali Khan plays Lankesh, the movie’s antagonist, while Prabhas plays Lord Ram. Sunny Singh will play Lakshman, and Kriti will play Janaki.
