Virat Kohli likely to face a ban after his furious exchange with on-field umpire

Virat Kohli may face a suspension

Indian skipper Virat Kohli at risk for confronting boycott after angry trade with on-field umpire Nitin Menon on the third day of the second Test match against England.

According to the details, Virat Kohli may face a one-match suspension following his angry exchange with umpire Nitin Menon.

Kohli reviewed a not-out decision against Joe Root in the final over of the day and reacted furiously.

David Lloyd, who used to sit on the ICC umpires’ committee, said: “He cannot be speaking to umpires like that and inciting the crowd. He should be setting a much better example. Someone in his camp should be having a word and the match referee should be very interested. It’s calculated and it’s not a good look.”

“You can’t have this, I am sorry,” said Michael Vaughan, former English cricket captain and commentator. Kohli is such a powerhouse, you can’t have him intimidating the umpire. It’s a stinker of a decision but you can’t be doing that as a captain,” he added.

Another former English captain Nasser Hussain questioned why India had sought a review. “It was odd that the India team and their captain took the full 15 seconds to work out whether to review or not. They weren’t actually sure what they were reviewing for,” he said.

Furthermore, the Indian captain already has two demerit points from his earlier outbursts over the past 24 months and two more could lead to a potential Test match suspension.

England team arrives Sri Lanka for 2-match test series after virus break

England team arrives Sri Lanka

England cricket team has on Sunday arrived at the Mattala International Airport to take part in the two-match test series against Sri Lanka, which got cancelled back in march due to Coronavirus pandemic.

The England players and support staff underwent antigen tests upon arrival.

Sri Lanka after closing its airspace to scheduled commercial flights since May now only has handful of repatriation flights and charters allowed.

“We are very excited about the Galle Tests,” Root told reporters at the time of arrival.

Airport staff in white hazmat suits sprayed the hands and footwear of the visitors and their luggage before they were allowed into the terminal for coronavirus tests.

Managing Director of England Men’s Cricket, Ashley Giles, said the team looked forward to playing at the seaside Galle stadium adjoining a colonial-era fort.

“To play in Galle will be very special –- it is one of the iconic venues in world cricket,” he said in a statement.

“The past 10 months have been uncertain for us all, but having international cricket returning to Sri Lanka will be a massive boost for cricket fans all over the world.”

Moreover, England abandoned their two-match Test tour of Sri Lanka in March on the second day of a practice match as the pandemic spread.

They will now play their two Tests starting on January 14 at the Galle stadium without any spectators.

Sri Lanka had just six reported cases when England pulled out in March, but the team returned to an island which now has over 44,000 infections and 211 deaths.

Stuart Broad becomes 4th fast bowler to take 500 Test wickets

England’s player Stuart Broad took his 500th Test wicket when he dismissed the West Indies’ Kraigg Brathwaite lbw at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old Broad became just the seventh bowler to reach the landmark, and only the second Englishman.

The English paceman said, “I feel I’m bowling as well as I ever have.  I’ve done some technical work and changed my run-up in the last 18 months. I’m challenging the stumps and trying to make the batsmen play as much as possible. That’s a tactical thing that’s really taken me to a really exciting level.

“I felt like my alignment to the stumps was really good in this game. I had a bit of confidence and match practice from the second Test so my tempo and alignment felt like every time I released the ball I could bring off stump into play.

‘We have to go step-by-step in order to achieve all our goals’, Azhar Ali

Azhar Ali

Pakistan’s Test skipper Azhar Ali has said he will be stressing on adaptability as international cricket heads into a new era following the coronavirus break.

“There are some areas where we have to adapt,” Azhar said in an interview with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

“In this weather, it is only the fast-bowlers who sweat so it was a challenge for us to shine the ball but that’s something which will change as the weather continues to get warm.”

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has banned players from shining the ball with saliva as part of the safety measures against the coronavirus.

He added that the regulations introduced to prevent the spread of the disease will have an affect on the over rate. “The most challenging thing, however, was that the bowlers had to put their sweaters and caps outside the boundary rope due to which managing the over rate was getting a bit difficult. Especially, in Yasir Shah’s case he fields in the circle but had to go all the way to the boundary to put his things but I am comfortable that we will adapt to these changes as we still have a two-day and two four-day matches to play.”
