With an estimated first day revenue of $3.40 million (about Rs. 27 crores), Brahmastra is off to a flying start abroad. Only three other Bollywood movies—Dhoom 3, Sultan, and Padmaavat—have earned more than $3 million on their opening day abroad. The three, however, had a release in Pakistan, which had a sizable market and better currency rates; hence, under like-for-like conditions, it is only second behind Padmaavat. The movie is anticipated to earn between $8.50 and $9 million over its opening weekend abroad, making it one of the greatest Bollywood debuts ever.

The Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt movie broke box office records when it debuted in the US and Canada with a staggering $2 million, including $700K in previews on Thursday. A Bollywood movie has never had a better opening day than this one, surpassing Padmaavat’s $1,649,799 haul from January 2018. Brahmastra will have to surpass Padmaavat’s weekend total of $5,000,650 as it is anticipated to bring in $4.75 to $5 million in its first frame.

Australia was the next best performer, with A$306K first day and here it was just behind A$364K of Padmaavat, making it the industry’s second biggest start in the market.

The overseas territorial breakdown for opening day box office collections of Brahmastra is as follows:

US/Canada – $2,000,000
Middle East – $625,000
Australia – $210,000
United Kingdom – $190,000
Europe – $150,000
Rest of World – $250,000
