LAHORE: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director-General Dr Sanaullah Abbasi on Thursday appointed DIG Humayun Bashir Tarar as head of the Cyber Crime Wing who will take charge from DIG Babar Bakht Qureshi who was transferred from the post on Wednesday.
DIG Humayun Bashir Tarar belongs to the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) and was serving as DIG Traffic Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Mr Tarar has taken the charge at a time when a smear campaign on social media has been unleashed against the military leadership and Supreme Court of Pakistan since former Prime Minister Imran Khan was ousted from the office through a successful vote of no-confidence motion on April 10.

According to FIA officials, several cases have been registered and over a dozen accused have also been arrested.
Mr Tarar had earlier served as RPO Sahiwal, DIG Punjab Highway Patrol, DIG/Head of Information Technology in Punjab Police, AIG Logistic and Procurement, Punjab, DPO Bahawalpur, DPO Sheikhupura, DPO Sialkot and PS to IG Punjab. He belongs to Vanike Tarar Distt. Hafizabad.
Humayun Tarar passed the CSS exam in 1997 and joined the Police Service of Pakistan.
Mr Tarar is a graduate of the University of Oxford, Maxwell School of Syracuse University, USA and Government College University, Lahore. He is the son of Ch. Karimdad Tarar (late).
