A fan named Aamna Arooj, who had come to Lahore from the UK, called him and expressed her desire to meet at midnight to discuss a drama project. Khalil ur Rehman went to her house, where seven armed men attacked him. They thrashed him, looted his money, and later dumped him in a deserted area.
