Jal remains one of the most iconic bands in Pakistan’s history, with their great music and the breakups and controversies between members ensuring their enduring legacy. The first breakup of Jal occurred when Atif Aslam pursued a solo career, and later, the band dissolved when Farhan Saeed embarked on his solo career.
Goher Mumtaz appeared as a guest on a show where he discussed his musical journey and the band breaking up several times.
Speaking about Farhan Saeed, he said “he met him through a friend after Atif Aslam left and according to Goher, Farhan Saeed was not needed in the band as he was a vocalist as well. He also added that he had to work hard to get Farhan registered with the audience. Farhan was singing the old album songs at the start and he was not very confident. Gohar then made a few songs for him to get his confidence up.”
Goher went on to say that “Farhan Saeed left Jal as he wanted to become another Atif Aslam. He had told Farhan that Atif became a star as he left at the right time and no one else could become another Atif. He further went on to say that it was hurtful to lose a singer who he had worked on and he had made a star out of despite Farhan having a very below-average voice.”
