Naegleria Fowleri claims woman life in Karachi

KARACHI: The Naegleria fowleri, also known as the brain-eating amoeba claimed the life of woman at private hospital of Karachi.

A 36 year old female, resident of Gulshan e Iqbal, District East Karachi passed away from Naegleria Fowleri at a private hospital in Karachi on February 23 2025.

The patient started experiencing symptoms on February 18 2025 and was admitted to the hospital on February 19.

The presence of Naegleria Fowleri was confirmed in the patient on February 24 2025 after the patient had passed away.

Upon investigation, it was noted that the patient had not participated in any water related activities. Her only exposure was regular use of water to perform ablution (wuzu) five times a day at home.

Naegleria fowleri is an ameba that naturally lives in the environment and thrives in heat.

It can be found in warm fresh water like lakes, rivers, and ponds, soil, including sediment at the bottom of lakes, rivers, and ponds, naturally hot (geothermal) water like hot springs or hot sources of drinking water, swimming pools, splash pads, surf parks, and other recreational venues that are poorly maintained or don’t have enough chlorine

If Naegleria fowleri goes up the nose and to the brain, it can destroy brain tissue and cause a fatal brain infection called primary amebic meningoencephalitis (PAM).

PAM typically happens when people go swimming or diving in warm freshwater lakes, rivers, or hot springs.

Pakistan Railways to run Eid special trains with discounted fares

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Railways Haneef Abbasi has announced to run special trains on Eid-ul-fitar with discounted fares.

Minister for Railways Haneef Abbasi directed the railway authorities to ensure the safety of the lives and property of the passengers and to install surveillance equipment to avoid any accident. Haneef Abbasi says railway revenue will increase and expenses will be reduced.

He said that special trains will be run from Ramadan 25 and will reduce fares on Eid ul Fitar .

Railway Minister Haneef Abbasi said remittances have increased and ministry of Railways in touch with different countries for ML One project of the railway.

It is to be remembered that Haneef Abbasi has recently been included in the federal cabinet and has been given the ministry of Railways three days ago.

ISLAMABAD: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Immigration arrested three suspects allegedly involved in smuggling of girls to China in the name of marriage during operation at Islamabad International Airport.

According to the FIA ​​spokesman, the suspects were traveling to China via a foreign flight, the arrested suspects were identified as Shoghi, Abdul Rehman and Noman, and a girl victim was also arrested during the raid.

According to the FIA ​​spokesman, the suspects tried to smuggle the victim to China in the name of marriage, including several women in the gang involved in marrying Pakistani girls with Chinese.

The spokesman said the suspects used to persuade girls to marry Chinese citizens. The suspects prepare documents with the help of Abdul Rahman and Noman Chinese agent Powell. The Powell arranged  Chinese client for huge sums.

Woman dies from ‘reaction’ of injection in Mayo Hospital

LAHORE: A woman lost her life and 15 other affected due to an adverse reaction of injection at the Chest Ward of Mayo Hospital Lahore.

The incident took place in the Chest Surgery Ward, prompting immediate action from hospital authorities

According to the administration of Mayo Hospital Lahore, 36 -year -old female patient Noreen was died due to the reaction to Ceftrixone injection, while 15 of the patients were affected out of which three on ventilator.

The administration said the use of the injection was stopped in the hospital. A committee headed by Prof Dr Asrar -ul -Haq was constituted to investigate the matter, which included the Chief Pharmacists, Deputy Nursing and AMS Mayo Hospital.

Chief Executive Officer(CEO)Mayo Hospital Prof Mohammad Haroon Hamid says legal action will be taken against responsible officials.

On the other hand, sources said that medicines have been purchased recently at Mayo Hospital, these medicines have been brought without lab tests.
