Atif Aslam shares heartwarming anecdote about Hamza Ali Abbasi from their Hajj trip

Atif Aslam
  • Atif Aslam and Hamza Ali Abbasi share a unique bond.
  • Atif shared a touching story about their Hajj experience.
  • He revealed how Hamza arrived unprepared for the trip.

Pakistani icons Atif Aslam and Hamza Ali Abbasi share a unique bond that goes beyond their fame. The two embarked on a memorable Hajj journey together, forming what Atif fondly calls a “Hajj brothers” connection. This trip occurred before Hamza tied the knot with Naimal Khawar, and their pictures from the pilgrimage went viral at the time.

Recently, Atif Aslam met Hamza Ali Abbasi at an event for his new project, Borderless World, where Naimal Khawar was also present. During the gathering, Atif shared a touching and humorous story about their Hajj experience, revealing how Hamza arrived unprepared for the trip.

“At Hajj, Hamza had nothing with him—no soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, or even slippers!” Atif narrated. “I ended up lending him everything.” This practical support turned into a source of laughter and strengthened their bond.

Atif also revealed how Naimal, who was then planning her wedding to Hamza, communicated with him through Atif. She asked Hamza not to shave his head, a traditional practice for Hajj pilgrims, but he went ahead with it anyway.

The camaraderie between the two stars, forged during one of the most spiritual journeys of their lives, continues to shine brightly as they support each other in their personal and professional endeavors.

Jackie Shroff reacts to ‘Baby John’ failure at box office

Baby John
  • Varun Dhawan’s Baby John failed to meet expectations.
  • Jackie Shroff shared his thoughts on its underwhelming performance.
  • He said that he feels bad, not for himself but for the producers.

Varun Dhawan’s highly anticipated action thriller Baby John, which was expected to dominate the Christmas box office, failed to meet expectations. Jackie Shroff, who played the antagonist in the film, recently shared his thoughts on its underwhelming performance.

He expressed empathy for the producers. “Dukh hota hai par khud ke liye nahi, producers ke liye (You do feel bad but not for yourself, but the producers),” he said in a conversation with India Today Digital.

When asked if a film’s failure impacts him, Shroff admitted that while actors do hope for appreciation, it’s the producers who face the brunt of the disappointment. “It is disheartening when the investment does not yield returns,” he explained, adding, “You tend to do your job with sincerity, but the people who have put in the money, you have to think about them too.”

A remake of Vijay’s hit Theri, Baby John made significant changes to suit Varun Dhawan’s character and the storyline. Despite its star-studded cast, including Rajpal Yadav, Wamiqa Gabbi, Sanya Malhotra, and Keerthy Suresh, and an action cameo by Salman Khan, the film grossed just Rs 59 crore globally on a Rs 160 crore budget.

While the box office numbers disappointed, Jackie Shroff’s perspective underscores the challenges and risks of filmmaking.

Petrol, diesel prices likely to increase from Jan 16

Petrol

ISLAMABAD: The petrol and diesel prices are expected to increase from January 16, 2025 (Thursday) due to higher international prices.

The price of petrol has been estimated to increase by Rs 3.53 per liter and the price of diesel by Rs 3.66 per liter for the next fortnight from yesterday, Thursday (January 16, 2025).

The expected increase in POL prices is being attributed to the increase in oil prices in the international market due to United States (US) restrictions on oil exports to China and India.

Crude oil prices surged past $81 a barrel, the highest since August 2024, on fears that US shipping restrictions could affect Russian oil supplies in the wake of US sanctions.

Industry and government sources said an increase in kerosene oil by Rs 4.98 per liter and light diesel oil (LDO) by Rs 6.20 per liter has been worked out, but the final decision rests with decision makers in the finance ministry.

Four children killed or injured by UXO per day in Syria: UNICEF

UNICEF

UNITED NATIONS: Syria’s lethal legacy of landmines and other explosives left over from years of conflict has led to the deaths of over 100 children in the last month alone, the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) said, calling on the international community to urgently support country-wide demining projects.

Ricardo Pires, UNICEF Communication Manager for Emergencies, told journalists from Damascus that in the last nine years, at least 422,000 incidents involving unexploded ordnance – or UXO – were reported in 14 governorates across Syria, “with half estimated to have ended in tragic child casualties”.

“Girls and boys in the country continue to suffer the brutal impact of unexploded ordnance (UXO) at an alarming rate,” he said.

The UNICEF official underscored that in December last year, 116 children were killed or injured by UXO, an average of nearly four per day – a likely underestimate “given the fluidity of the situation,” he told journalists in Geneva.

“It’s the main cause of child casualties in Syria right now and has been for many years, and will continue to be,” with more than 300,000 mines still spread across the country, according to estimates.

The danger affects some five million children living in areas contaminated with the lethal explosives, Mr. Pires said, for whom “every step they take carries the risk of an unimaginable tragedy”.

Renewed displacement has aggravated the danger. Mr. Pires recalled that since 27 November and amid escalating conflict, more than 250,000 children were forced to flee their homes as forces including Hayat Tahrir Al Sham (HTS) advanced on Damascus.

For the displaced and those trying to return home, “the peril of UXO is constant and unavoidable”, he stressed.

The threat has only intensified since the fall of the Assad regime on 8 December, as many weapons, including explosive weapons, have been left behind, in Homs but also in Damascus, Mr. Pires said.
