Senate Election: PHC gives last chance to ECP for submitting reply

PHC

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court on Thursday gave a last chance to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to submit its response regarding the conduct of Senate elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The court was hearing a petition filed by PTI leader Azam Swati, seeking the immediate holding of Senate elections in the province.

During the proceedings, the petitioner’s counsel argued that 11 Senate seats from KP were currently lying vacant, leaving the province underrepresented in the upper house of the parliament.

Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim inquired about the ECP’s plan to decide the election schedule.

In response, the ECP’s Special Secretary requested more time, stating that a meeting on the matter was forthcoming, and assured the court that a detailed response would be provided.

Chief Justice Ibrahim emphasized the urgency, noting that KP was not fully represented in the Senate.

The ECP official clarified that half of the province’s seats remain vacant.

The court ordered the ECP to submit its response by December 24, warning that no further delay would be tolerated.

Later he adjourned the hearing until December 24.

Thai village mistakes man’s cries for help as ghostly sounds

Thai village
  • A Thai village near the Thailand-Myanmar border was left terrified.
  • The villagers heard “ghostly sounds” coming from a nearby forest.
  • The noise source was later discovered to be a Chinese man.

A village near the Thailand-Myanmar border was left terrified after locals heard eerie, “ghostly sounds” coming from a nearby forest for three days.

The source of the noise was later discovered to be a Chinese man trapped in a 12-meter-deep well. Authorities quickly located and rescued him.

The bizarre incident occurred last month, when police and rescue workers scoured the remote forest and found Liu Chuanyi, a 22-year-old Chinese national, who had been trapped without food or water. Liu had sustained a cerebral concussion, a fractured wrist, and bruises. He was rushed to a local hospital following a 30-minute rescue operation.

Liu, who had been trapped for three days, used his energy to cry for help every hour. Thai village, unable to understand his cries, assumed the sounds were supernatural, with some saying, “A Chinese man shouting for help in the middle of nowhere? Of course, the locals can’t understand the language and might think it was a wizard uttering spells,” as one Chinese social media user remarked.

Rescuers revealed that Liu had wandered into the forest and fell into the well while trying to find his way out. Authorities have now sealed the well to prevent future incidents.
