SAHIWAL: Two arrested terrorists including the mastermind of Dasu hydel power project attack were killed by their accomplices in Sahiwal District of Punjab.

According to Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) spokesman, terrorists Muhammad Hussain and Ayaz alias Jahanzeb were being transferred from Sahiwal Jail due to security concerns, where the firing incident took place on Sammundari road in Sahiwal.

The spokesman said that to free the arrested terrorists, their accomplices opened fire on the police, as a result of which both terrorists were killed by the firing of their own accomplices.

It should be noted that the court had awarded the death penalty to the terrorists involved in the Dasu attack. On July 14, 2021, 13 people, including 9 foreigners, were killed and 20 injured in the Daso attack.

In November 2022, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) handed down the death sentence on 13 counts to each of the two men arrested in the DHPP terrorist attack case.

ECP takes notice of ballot paper theft during NA-231 recount

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) sought a report from the Provincial Election Commission, Sindh, regarding the reported burning and theft of ballot papers during the recount in NA-231, Karachi.

An ECP spokesperson stated that the Commission has taken serious notice of media reports regarding alleged hooliganism at four polling stations in Karachi during the recount of NA-231 on Friday.

The Commission has instructed the Chief Secretary and Inspector General of Sindh to take immediate and strict action against those involved in the disturbances.

The ECP has stopped the recount of votes in National Assembly Constituency NA-231 from Karachi for one week.

On the other hand, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has asked all members of parliament and provincial assemblies to submit their statements of assets and liabilities including those of their spouses and dependents by December 31.

According to ECP, all parliamentarians have to submit their yearly statements of assets and liabilities including similar details of their spouses and dependent children as on the preceding June 30 on Form B for the financial year 2023-2024.

The Commission, on the first day of January each year will publish names of members, who fail to submit the requisite statement of assets and liabilities within the period specified under sub-section (1).

The commission will on January 16 by an order suspend the membership of Senate, who fails to submit the statement of assets and liabilities and such Member shall cease to function till he files the statement of assets and liabilities.

20 miners killed, 7 injured in Dukki coal mines attack

QUETTA: At least 20 miners were killed and 7 others were injured in terrorist attack in local coal mines in Dukki region of Balochistan.

According to the police, unknown armed men attacked the coal mines of Dukki District Chairman Haji Khairullah with a rocket-propelled grenade and opened fire on the miners there, killing 20 miners and injuring 7.

According to the police, the miners who died in the attacks belong to Pishin, Qila Saifullah, Zhob, Muslim Bagh, Musa Khel, Kuchlak and Afghanistan.

According to the Medical Officer of Dukki Hospital, Dr Johar Saduzai, those injured in the attack by the armed men have been shifted to Teaching Hospital Loralai after receiving medical aid at Dukki Hospital.

According to the medical officer, 19 people were killed in the Dukki coal mine attack, the dead miners belong to Qila Saifullah, Pishin, Zhob and Muslim Bagh, among the dead are miners from Loralai, Kachlak and Musa Khel.  The three miners belong to Afghanistan.

Haji Khair Ullah, the owner of the coal mine, said that the armed men have also burnt the machinery of ten coal mines. After receiving the information about the incident, police and FC reached the spot and started a search operation.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti condemned the killing of innocent laborers in Dukki and expressed his anger over the incident and ordered action against the terrorists.

Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti said that terrorists’ agenda is to destabilize Pakistan. He said laborers  are targeted as soft targets and terrorists will be brought to their logical end.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the terrorist attack killing several miners in the Duki area of Balochistan.

At least 20 miners were killed and seven injured as a group of armed men attacked a private coal company mines in Duki in the wee hours using heavy weapons, the media reports said quoting police officials.

The prime minister, in a statement, sought a report from the authorities concerned on the incident and reiterated his government’s resolve to purge the country of terrorism.

President Zardari calls for enhanced focus on regional connectivity

ASHGABAT: President Asif Ali Zardari addressed an international forum held here in the Turkmen capital, where he emphasized an enhanced focus on the promotion of regional connectivity as well as cultural and economic collaboration in the region.

The president, addressing the forum on “Interrelation of Times and Civilizations- Basis for Peace and Development” said that Pakistan and Turkmenistan shared a deep-rooted bond of brotherhood which was built on mutual respect and commonalities of faith and a shared vision for a better and peaceful future.

The event, held to mark the 300th birth anniversary of Magtymguly Faragi, a great Turkmen thinker, poet and philosopher, was also attended by several regional leaders including Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Tajik President Emomali Rehmon, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and others.

President Zardari, who arrived here on Thursday on a two-day visit, called Magtymguly Faragi a “towering figure” of Turkmen literature and a “beacon of spiritual enlightenment.”

The great Turkmen poet and Pakistan’s national poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal shared several commonalities in their poetry and thoughts on Sufism and nationalism, he added.

He lauded the Turkmen government and people for organizing the event to promote understanding of peace and dialogue among different cultures which also provided him an opportunity to interact with leaders of regional countries to help strengthen mutual friendship.

President Zardari said that his participation in the Forum reflected his country’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.

He said Magtymguly Faragi was not only a poet but also an aspiration and symbol of the Turkmen people’s love for their homeland.

“His works continue to resonate with us today providing guidance, inspiration and sense of unity,” he said.

Magtymguly Faragi was born in the times of great political and social unrest when the Turkmen tribe was scattered and divided, yet despite this challenge, he dedicated his life to the dream of seeing Turkmen people united, the president added.

He expressed the hope that the discussions and deliberations in the Forum would not only honor the memories Magtymguly Faragi but also help explore new avenues for cultural collaboration.
