IHC orders immediate de-sealing of PTI central secretariat

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) ordered immediate de-sealing  of the central secretariat of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf(PTI).

Islamabad High Court Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz issued a reserved judgment in which the court said that Capital Development Authority(CDA) had issued notices to the previous owner in 2022 and 2023 and no explanation could be given as to why notices were sent to the old owner.

The court judgment said that no receipt of service of notice or show cause notice was on record. The order to seal the office of CDA was not written to PTI nor was a copy sent.

The court ordered the PTI secretariat to be de-sealed immediately and said that CDA could take action if there were any violation of the law.

The Islamabad High Court had reserved its decision on the petition against the sealing of the PTI central secretariat and the operation.

FBR registers more than 23,000 traders through Tajir Dost app

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) successfully registered more than 23,000 retailers through the Tajir Dost app and the registration process is underway in the country.

According to FBR, 23,497 retailers have been registered in the Tajir Dost app till June 3. The most number of retailers belonging to Lahore registered in the app, whose number was 7, 297.

5, 599 retailers were registered from Karachi, 30, 67 from Rawalpindi, while 2,153 were registered from Islamabad, 20, 37 from Peshawar, 1,317 from Quetta, and 2027 from other cities.

According to FBR, 21, 470 traders were registered from 6 major cities of the country.

Earlier, a Trader-friendly mobile app was approved to bring crores of retailers in the country into the tax net.

The merchant-friendly app approved to bring retailers/wholesalers into the tax net will automatically calculate monthly tax payments. The app will keep records and facilitate payments to the shopkeeper.

The app will levy up to 10 percent of the annual rent of the shop while the scheme is expected to be announced anytime.

ISLAMABAD: Former Federal Minister Senator Faisal Vawda refused to seek an unconditional apology from the Supreme Court in the contempt of court case.

Faisal Vawda submitted a 16-page reply to the contempt notice in the Supreme Court.

In his reply, Faisal Vawda said that the purpose of his press conference was not to insult the judiciary but to improve the country.

The former minister also submitted the transcripts of the speeches of Rauf Hassan, Maulana Fazal ur Rehman, and Shehbaz Sharif in the court.

In response, Faisal Vawda further said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Rauf Hassan called the respected judge a tout and threatened the judiciary and judges while Maulana Fazal ur Rehman also threatened the judges in his speech in front of the Supreme Court. He further stated that Shahbaz Sharif called the judges black sheep.

In his reply, he has pleaded that the court should show restraint in proceeding with the contempt of court proceedings and withdraw the notice.

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal said that the economic and cultural connections between the people of China and Pakistan are strong and focused.

In a video message ahead of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to China, he said that a delegation comprising of one hundred and twenty six Pakistani businessmen is also visiting China.

“China has an important role in Pakistan’s development. It has always helped Pakistan in difficult times,” he added.

He said there is a big opportunity for us to export the country’s products to neighboring China, adding, Pakistani business delegation will sign investment and export agreements with their Chinese counterparts during the visit.

The Minister for Planning also recalled that the first phase of CPEC focused on infrastructure development, adding, this also provided two hundred thousand job opportunities to the youth.

Ahsan Iqbal said the government is focusing all its efforts on ensuring high growth rate on sustainable basis.
