ECP notifies new election commissioners for Sindh, Balcohistan

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has appointed new election commissioners in Sindh and Balochistan.

The Election Commissioner of Balochistan Sharifullah has been appointed as the Election Commissioner of Sindh.

Election Commissioner Sindh Ejaz Anwar Chauhan has been appointed Election Commissioner Balochistan.

A formal notification of these exchanges has been issued.

On the other hand, extensive training for the newly appointed District Returning Officers (DROs) and Returning Officers (ROs) to facilitate the oversight of the 2024 general elections, would commence on Wednesday, December 13, 2023.

The Election Commission, has finalized the training preparations. Senior Election Commission officers will conduct training sessions for district returning officers and returning officers, covering election procedures, rules, and other administrative aspects.

An ECP spokesperson stated that preparations have been completed for a one-day training session on December 16, 2023, for 142 District Returning Officers in all four provincial headquarters. This comprises 40 from Punjab, 36 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 36 from Balochistan, and 30 from Sindh.

ISLAMABAD: Federal Ministry for Religious Affairs has extended the date of submission of applications under government Hajj Scheme for 10 days.

According to the announcement of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, December 12 was the last date for submission of applications in the official Hajj scheme, but now the receipt of applications has been extended by 10 days.

The statement said that on the request of pilgrims, the date of submission of applications in the official Hajj scheme was announced to be extended till December 22.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs said that applications are being received in the sponsorship scheme on a first-come-first-served basis, those paying in dollars from abroad will be selected without a draw.

Apart from this, on the request of Hajj pilgrims, the Ministry of Religious Affairs has lifted the 5-year ban on Hajj-i-Badl, after which those who have performed Hajj during the last five years have been declared eligible to apply for Hajj this year.

The declaration said that single women would be able to perform Hajj in a group of trusted women on providing an affidavit.

It should be noted that Hajj applications can be submitted in 15 banks.

Despite slashing Hajj expenses and introducing short-term Hajj facilities, the number of applications has dropped this year too.

KU declares results of BSc Part I, II Annual Exams 2022

KARACHI: The University of Karachi(KU) announced the results of BSc Part-I, II, and both parts of the Annual Examination 2022.

According to the gazette, 117 candidates were registered of which 107 students appeared in the BSc Part-I papers and 67 candidates were declared passed.

The overall pass percentage was 62.62 percent.

It also shows that 860 candidates were registered and 816 students appeared in the BSc Part-II and both parts annual exams of which 93 candidates managed to clear the papers with the first division, 298 students with the second division, and one candidate with the third division.

The overall pass percentage was 48.04 percent.

PESHAWAR:  Earthquake tremors of 4.9 magnitude hit various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on early morning of Tuesday.

According to the seismological center, the earthquake tremors were felt in Swat, Mingora, Lower Dir, Upper Dir and adjoining areas.

People came out of their houses in fear by reciting Kalma-e-Tayyaba.

However, no loss of life or damage to property was reported from any part of KP as per the initial reports.
