  • He said rule of law is necessary to eradicate harassment cases.
  • A helpline should be launched for students in all universities.

KARACHI: The University of Karachi has a zero-tolerance policy regarding harassment matters. The person who is found involved in such heinous activities should strictly be punished according to the law of the state.

The rule of law is necessary to eradicate harassment cases from society and the affected person should not remain silent in any condition so that the criminal could get punishment. These views were expressed by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi.

He was addressing the seminar titled “Increasing Harassment in Educational Institutions: Challenges and Solutions” which was organized by the KU Center of Excellence for Women’s Studies, at the KU Chinese Teachers Memorial Auditorium.

The KU VC Prof Dr Khalid Iraqi asked the teachers and students to play their roles and help their fellow students. He urged that the parents should also play their pivotal role in this regard, and advised that parents and family members should give trust and make their children brave.

Among the speakers, advocate Zia Awan from Lawyers for Human Rights and Legal Aid strongly emphasized that a helpline should be launched for students in all universities across the country.

Apart from this, he emphasized that training workshops related to harassment should be organized for students and teachers along with the administration so that more people could learn how to handle and report terrible situations and incidents.

Another speaker, the Resident Director of the Aurat Foundation Mahnaz Rehman emphasized the importance of making the Harassment Committee more active in universities to erase harassment cases from the higher education institutions.

Meanwhile, the renowned working journalist Lubna Jarrar said that either male or female could become a victim of this crime and students should break their silence and raise their voices on various forums, especially on social media against harassment-related incidents.

She observed that if an affected person did not report the incident and shame the person involved in it in public then he would go out and attempt to destroy the lives of others.

IHC stops regularization of govt employees

IHC
  • The case against restoration and regularization of staff heard.
  • Court stopped ministries from implementing recommendations.
  • The recommendations of special committee had no legal status.

ISLAMABAD:  The Islamabad High Court (IHC) halted the regularization of government employees on the recommendation of a special committee of the National Assembly.

The case against the restoration and regularization of government employees was heard in the IHC on the recommendations of the National Assembly Committee.

The court stopped the ministries and departments from implementing the recommendations of the committee and asked them not to follow the recommendations of EOBI, CDA, Overseas Pakistan Foundation Committee, Pakistan Steel, and FIA Special Committee.

In the court decision, it was said that Pakistan Steel and FIA also should not follow the recommendations of the special committee. If the recommendations of the committee for the rehabilitation of the employees are followed, then the department should cancel these orders.

The court accepted all the requests of the petitioners against the recommendations of the special committee and declared the disciplinary action against the officers illegal for not following the recommendations of the committee.

In the decision, it was said that under the National Assembly Rules of Business, the special committee cannot exceed its powers. The federal government also did not support the recommendations of the special committee.

The High Court said that the recommendations of the special committee had no legal status and the committee had a mandate to send recommendations to the Parliament. The committee had started sending instructions directly to the institutions.

The court said in the judgment that the committee ordered EOBI to reinstate 358 employees in defiance of the court order and all the actions of which gave the impression that the committee was above the law and beyond the constitutional mandate.

There was an impression from the work of the special committee that it was working against the scheme of distribution of authority in the institutions. It was not legal to issue show-cause notices to the FIA officers for criminal proceedings. The court was told that there was nothing in the rules that the committee called the institutions.

Honda CD 70 Dream 2024 Now Available with New Sticker

Honda CD 70 Dream 2024 Now Available with New Sticker

In the year 2024, Honda introduced the CD 70 Dream with a redesigned appearance, featuring fresh decals that give a modern facelift to this beloved commuter motorcycle. While the bike retains its core mechanical characteristics, the new graphics enhance its visual appeal, making it more attractive to riders.

The upgraded CD70 Dream showcases a sticker transformation, featuring a blend of blue tones that transition from dark to light, accented with white details. Nevertheless, the bike’s fundamental specifications remain largely unchanged.

As the foremost motorcycle manufacturer in Pakistan, Atlas Honda should direct its efforts toward significant improvements aimed at enhancing performance, rider comfort, and the overall riding experience. A mere switch in decals is superficial and doesn’t constitute a substantial upgrade.

Recognizing this and responding to the discerning demands of the market is paramount. Through investments in advanced engineering, innovative features, and rider-centric enhancements, Atlas Honda can set higher industry standards and better meet the evolving needs of riders, delivering not just cosmetic alterations but meaningful, substantial improvements that resonate with the riding community.

PPP to observe 16th anniversary of Karsaz tragedy today

PPP
  • PPP Chairman announced to observe 16th anniversary of Karsaz tragedy.
  • The main condolence gathering will be held in Karachi on today.
  • Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will address condolence gathering in Karachi.

KARACHI:  Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has announced to observe the 16th anniversary of the Karsaz tragedy today (Wednesday) .

To pay homage to the martyrs of the Karsaz tragedy, the main condolence gathering will be held in Karachi today (Wednesday), which will be addressed by party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. PPP Chairman’s speech will be telecasted live through video link in condolence gatherings across the country.

According to the  Bilawal House Media Cell, General Secretary of PPP Sindh chapter Senator Waqar Mehdi and President of PPP Karachi Division and former Provincial Minister Saeed Ghani, while addressing the press conference, said that the Karsaz tragedy was the deadliest terrorist attacks on peaceful political workers and supporters, in the history of Pakistan.

Giving details of condolence gathering and other activities in Karachi regarding the anniversary of the Karsaz tragedy, Waqar Mehdi and Saeed Ghani said  the party’s office-bearers and workers will pay homage to the martyrs by lighting candles and placing flowers at the Karsaz Memorial, adding that on October 18, the main condolence gathering will be held on the road near Bilawal House. “This year’s commemoration is dedicated to the martyrs of the Karsaz tragedy as well as the Palestinians who were martyred by the Israeli forces,” they added.

Saeed Ghani pointed out that the regime of that time deliberately spoiled the cases of October 18 and  December 27 tragedies, adding that the PPP was not even allowed to register the October 18 tragedy case as per its wish, and when the court ordered to file the FIR, the then government filed an review petition against such court decision.

“The solution to the current crises facing the country is to hold general elections, and if excuses continue to be made, then it could be impossible to hold general elections in any month even,” said Saeed Ghani.
