Tiger Woods plays first-round 78 at The Open in windy weather

Tiger Woods
  • Tiger Woods shoots a 6-over 78 in his first round at the Open Championship.
  • The 15-time major champion trails leader Cameron Young by 14 shots.
  • Woods claims the speed of the Old Course’s greens was slower than the fairways.

Tiger Woods first round at the 150th Open Championship began with a superb tee shot in a fresh divot in the middle of the fairway, which resulted in a double-bogey on the first hole at St. Andrews’ Old Course.

It didn’t get much better for the 15-time major champion from there. Woods shot a 6-over 78 by the time it was over six hours later. He trailed leader Cameron Young by 14 shots.

It was a dismal start for Woods, who is just playing in his third official tournament of the season. Woods’ second shot received a big gust of wind after he found his original tee shot in a divot. His ball landed in a burn directly in front of the green. Woods produced a superb chip shot to approximately 3 feet after a drop, but he missed the shot putt and recorded a double-bogey 6.

“Well, probably [the] highest score as I could have shot,” Woods stated. “[I] didn’t get off to a great start. … But in a round sometimes it just goes that way. It just goes one way and it never seems to come back, no matter how hard you fight.”

Woods claimed he exacerbated his bad luck by failing to acclimate to the speed of the Old Course’s greens, which he claimed were slower than the fairways. Following four holes, he was four over after a three-putt bogey on No. 4.

“I think I had maybe four or five three-putts [Thursday],” Woods added. “Just wasn’t very good on the greens and every putt I left short. I struggled with hitting the putts hard enough. They looked faster than what they were putting, and I struggled with it.”

Manchester United vs. Melbourne Victory score, highlights

Manchester United
  • Manchester United began their pre-season tour of Australia with a 4-1 victory over Melbourne Victory.
  • Zidane Iqbal, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford scored for the Red Devils.
  • Erik ten Hag made ten changes at halftime to his team’s line-up.

Manchester United began their pre-season tour of Australia on Friday with a 4-1 victory over Melbourne Victory.

After defeating Liverpool 4-0 earlier in the week, the Red Devils were dragged back down to earth in the fifth minute at the MCG when Victory’s Chris Ikonomidis opened the scoring.

United would go on to control possession but fail to create clear chances until the 43rd minute when Scott McTominay’s deflected shot looped over Victory goalkeeper Paul Izzo.

Just minutes later, Anthony Martial received another assist after the ball broke to him just metres from goal.

After the break, new Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag made ten changes, with Marcus Rashford leading the way with his third goal in the 78th minute.

Victory missed a couple chances to score a second goal and eventually conceded an own goal in the dying minutes after some nice play by Tahith Chong.

Saudi Arabia allows airspace to Israeli flights

Saudi Arabia
  • Saudi Arabia opens its airspace to all civilian carriers, including flights to and from Israel.
  • The move is a step toward normalizing relations between the two countries.
  • US Vice President Joe Biden was scheduled to fly directly from Israel to Saudi Arabia on Friday.

Saudi Arabia opened its airspace to all civilian carriers on Friday, including flights to and from Israel, in a step toward normalizing relations between the two countries as US Vice President Joe Biden tours the Middle East.

Biden praised the kingdom’s decision in a statement released hours before he was scheduled to fly directly from Israel to Saudi Arabia, saying it could “help build momentum toward Israel’s further integration into the region.”

For months, the Biden administration has worked to formalize security and economic agreements between Saudi Arabia and Israel in order to lay the groundwork for a bilateral normalization agreement.

A possible normalization between Israel and Saudi Arabia has been hailed as the “crown jewel” of Jewish state-Arab world agreements. As part of a wave of agreements at the end of former President Donald Trump’s term, the UAE, Bahrain, Morocco, and Sudan normalized relations with Israel in 2020.

This is the first time the kingdom has granted Israeli airlines unrestricted access to its airspace to fly to and from the country. Saudi Arabia recently barred Israeli airlines flying from Tel Aviv to the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain from using its airspace.

The decision effectively lifts Israel’s decades-long ban on overflights over Saudi airspace. Previously, Israeli airlines flying to Asian destinations such as India and China had to circumnavigate Saudi Arabia for an hour.

Following Saudi Arabia’s decision, Biden vowed to do everything in his power “through direct diplomacy and leader-to-leader engagement to continue advancing this historic process.”

The Saudi announcement was welcomed by Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid, who described it as the culmination of a “long road of intense and covert diplomacy with Saudi Arabia and the United States.” He stated that the decision was “just the beginning,” and promised that more positive relations would follow.

Lapid also thanked Biden and wished him luck in his upcoming summit in Jeddah on Saturday.

Zhalay Sarhadi clarifies her statement on Hania Aamir

Zhalay Sarhadi
  • In an interview Zhalay stated that if she were in Aamir’s shoes, she would avoid social media for at least a year.
  • The statement brought outrage on Social media among fans and followers
  • She then took to Instagram to clear her position and stated It pains me to think that people misinterpret everything said!” “Social media is toxic and harmful to one’s mental health,” she said.

Zhalay Sarhadi, Pakistan’s revered actress, has landed herself in hot water after her critical remarks about Hania Aamir on social media were taken out of context.

Sarhadi stated that if she were in Aamir’s shoes, she would avoid social media for at least a year.

But now, the Mere Bewafa actress has clarified that her suggestions were not intended as a jab, but rather were applicable to anyone who uses the social media platform.

She addressed the backlash specifically in an Instagram story. “It pains me to think that people misinterpret everything said!” “Social media is toxic and harmful to one’s mental health,” she said.

Furthermore, Sarhadi stated that her “verbose opinion wasn’t to bring any one down to cause any hurt.” Zhalay said she spoke from her “own experience.”

She also tagged Aamir and said she’s a fantastic artist and person. Zhalay apologised for her comments as well.

These comments and justifications became public after the divas were invited to Nida Yasir’s Good Morning Pakistan show on Eidul Adha. The host handed each guest two photos and asked, “If you were given their life, what changes would you make?” This caused the incident, which was later cleared up.
