Wasim Akram Embarrassed After British HC Christian Turner Picks Up Garbage On Margalla Hills

Wasim Akram Christian Turner

Former Pakistan’s cricketer Wasim Akram appreciates British High Commissioner Christian Turner’s efforts to keep Islamabad clean but also expressed his disappointment over the littering situation on Margalla Hills.

Wasim Akram, retweeting Christian Turner’s post, said, “Now this is really embarrassing. Where are we heading? And thanks Mr Turner for doing this almost every week.”

On April 30, Christian Turner shared a picture of the Margalla Hills on Twitter, in which he was collecting garbage in a bag.

He wrote in a tweet that “Meals are for sharing not littering. Two bags of rubbish collected on Margallas #FridayMorningWalk – please help keep beautiful Islamabad clean “.

In this tweet of the British High Commissioner, some social media users blamed the administration and some blamed the citizens.

This morning (May 7) the British High Commissioner shared another photo of Margalla Hills where he went for a morning walk.

In the tweeted photo, Christian Turner is seen holding 2 bags full of garbage and in both his hands.

“Another Friday morning, another two bags of litter,” Christian Turner tweeted.

In his tweet, he briefly referred to the cleaning of garbage in the hills of Margalla, saying, “Cleanliness is half faith.”

However, the debate and criticism over the tweet started when Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Hamza Shafqat praised Christian Turner in a one-letter tweet and wrote ‘Great’ but he has deleted his tweet.

Instead of acknowledging the mistake and negligence of his administration, he praised the British High Commissioner.

COVID-19: Pakistan Enters Complete Eight-Day Lockdown As Eid Nears

COVID-19 Pakistan Enters 8-Day complete lockdown

Pakistan has declared a complete eight-day complete lockdown ahead of Eid-Ul-Fitr to curb the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan have entered a full lockdown from May 8 to May 15 from 6 pm onwards amidst rising COVID-19 infections.

Non-essential businesses and tourism sites must close and travel across the country are restricted from 8-16 May.

However, the Sindh government will begin lockdown restrictions in the province between Saturday and Sunday night.

The notification further added that roadblocks will be set up at various places to keep people confined to their homes from Saturday and Sunday night.

Trains coming to Sindh will also be kept closed till May 15.

Note that, the country is currently battling the third wave of coronavirus infections, recording more than 140,000 cases and 3,000 deaths in April.

Officials had warned restrictions could be necessary given neighbouring India’s devastating surge in cases.

Pakistan recorded an additional 4,109 positive cases on Saturday, according to the health ministry. The actual number of infections is likely to be higher because of under-reporting.

Under Pakistan’s partial lockdown, all but essential shops, businesses and markets will remain closed until 16 May.

Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah had presided over a meeting of the Coronavirus Taskforce at CM House on Thursday.

The Coronavirus Task Force meeting has decided to ban takeaways from restaurants and allow only home deliveries from Friday, May 7 to Sunday, May 9.

The meeting was held to review the prevailing COVID-19 situation and decided to further tighten restrictions to curb the spread of the deadly virus.

The decisions taken during the meeting are as follows:

  1. No takeaways will be allowed after the sunset from Friday to Sunday.
  2. Only home deliveries will be allowed.
  3. Grocery shops to shut at 6 pm.
  4. Karachi’s beaches including Hawksbay and Seaview will remain closed during the Eid holidays.
  5. Pharmacies have been exempted from business timing restrictions.
  6. Vaccination centres will operate round the clock.

Pakistan Strongly rebukes Israeli Occupation Forces’ Attack In Al Aqsa Mosque

Foreign Office (FO) Al Aqsa Mosque

Pakistan has strongly condemned the attack on innocent Palestinians at the Al Aqsa Mosque, where Israeli police stormed and forcefully dispersed worshippers away in occupied East Jerusalem.

In a statement by Foreign Office (FO) Spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri such attacks, especially during the holy month of Ramazan, are against all humanitarian norms and human rights laws. He prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

“Pakistan strongly condemns attacks on innocent worshippers in Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli Occupation Forces. We pray for speedy recovery of injured, reiterate our steadfast support to the Palestinian cause & urge the int’l community to take prompt action to protect the Palestinian people,” the statement read.

Israeli police fired rubber bullets and stun grenades towards Palestinians at Jerusalem’s Al Aqsa Mosque on Friday as weeks-long stresses between Israel and the Palestinians over Jerusalem intensified again.

According to police, many injured have been taken to the hospital.

Calls for calm emitted in from the United States and the United Nations while the European Union and Jordan express deep concerns over this matter.

“Extremely Concerned About The Violence In Jerusalem”: US

The United Nations (UN) has prompted Israel to call off any forced ejections in Jerusalem, warning that its actions could raise to “war crimes”.

“We call on Israel to immediately call off all forced evictions,” UN rights office spokesman Rupert Colville told.

“We wish to emphasise that East Jerusalem remains part of the occupied Palestinian territory, in which international humanitarian law applies,” Colville said.

“The occupying power… cannot confiscate private property in occupied territory,” he said, adding that transferring civilian populations into the occupied territory was illegal under international law and “may amount to war crimes.”
