Maryam Nawaz angry over “unimpressive” gathering at PDM Lahore Jalsa

Maryam Nawaz

After Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)’s flopped power-show in Lahore, held yesterday, PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz expressed dissatisfaction and anger over the “unimpressive” public gathering held at Minar-e-Pakistan.

While chairing the PML-N’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) and Central Working Committee (CWC) meetings in Lahore, Maryam expressed displeasure with the party leaders after they failed to bring out the people to the jalsagah.

“Lahore division leadership failed to bring people to PDM public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan.” It was expected that 500,000 people will attend the rally but unfortunately, the rally could not attract as much audience as it was being expected,” said the PML-N leader.

According to sources, she made it clear in the meeting that designations would be given to party workers in the future based on individual performance.

Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), an alliance of major opposition parties failed to attract public support in Lahore’s public gathering held at Minar-e-Pakistan on Sunday.

However, according to police sources, around 8,500 people participated in the PDM Lahore Jalsa, while according to the special branch around 10,000 people attended the public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan.

9,0000 to 10,000 participants are currently present in the jalsa, sources told.

While addressing the large crowd at the PDM Lahore Jalsa, Maryam Nawaz targeted Prime Minister Imran Khan and said that when he doesn’t have any answer regarding his incompetence, he in return terms Nawaz Sharif ‘a corrupt or a traitor’.

She further criticized the incumbent government saying that we haven’t seen any better performance from the government, but there is a heap of scandals we can witness, adding that the public will hold Imran Khan accountable for every difficulty.

Tabedaar Khan used to say that he won’t take loans for the betterment of people, but Imran Khan has set new records for loans, added Maryam Nawaz.

Turkey picks up new ambassador to Israel after two years

Turkey appoints Ufuk Ulutas

Government of Turkey has on Monday reportedly appointed a new ambassador to Israel to fill the diplomatic post left vacant for over two years.

After a hiatus of two years, Turkey has appointed its new envoy, Ufuk Ulutas to Israel.

Ufuk, 40, formerly studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

The chairman for the Center for Strategic Research at the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Ulutas is not a career diplomat but “very polished,” “very clever” and “very pro-Palestinian,” said an al-Monitor report report, which quoted “well-placed sources.”

Ulutas’ appointment also comes as a number of Arab countries – Bahrain, Morocco, Sudan and the United Arab Emirates – agreed to normalize diplomatic ties with Israel in deals brokered by outgoing US President Trump.

The Palestinian leadership has slammed the deals as grave betrayals by the Arab states that further undermine Palestinian efforts to achieve self-determination.

In May 2018, Ankara withdrew its envoy over deadly attacks against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip who were protesting US President Donald Trump’s decision to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Erdogan and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had often exchanged angry remarks, with a war of words reaching a boiling point about two years ago.

Erdogan had also criticized a controversial Israeli law that defined the country as the nation-state of the Jewish people.
