Facebook removes fake profiles linked to conservative group

Facebook

Social media giant Facebook has recently removed 276 accounts that used fake profiles to pose as right-leaning Americans, the company announced on Thursday.

Facebook had also permanently banned an Arizona-based digital communications firm that it said was behind the fake accounts.

The move was prompted that a pro-Trump group known as Turning Point Action was paying teenagers to post coordinated, supportive messages, a violation of Facebook’s rules.

Facebook and Twitter have been regularly removing fake accounts “both domestic and foreign” that try to insert themselves in the US political discourse and influence the election. But social media companies face broader threats around misinformation that at times come from President Donald Trump himself.

The latest network Facebook removed became active before the 2018 midterm elections and went dormant until June when the accounts began posting on topics including the coronavirus pandemic, criticism of the Democratic Party and its nominee, former Vice President Joe Biden, as well as praise for Trump and other Republicans.

Bollywood’s Dabangg girl Sonakshi Sinha, who had bid farewell to Twitter citing triggering hate, described how the industry has changed over the years.

In a recent chat, Sonakshi expressed her views on how the industry has changed over the years, since the time her father, Shatrughan Sinha, used to rule the box office.

“It was very different at that point in time. Now, it has evolved, as is with any industry. Times have changed audiences have changed, tastes have changed. The style of working has become different nowadays. For me, from where I am sitting and see it, it is a positive change. It is really a whole new level of professionalism which I have experienced,” she said.

The actress added, “I think very early on in my career, I kind of left it to the Universe, that this is a place which is very unpredictable by nature. There will be things thrown at you, and you will have to handle. They will come out of nowhere. Then there are things which you will have to take control over or let go of.”

Sonakshi added that to this point, she never goes against the tide.

“Honestly, I have always been a person who generally likes to go with the flow. I don’t stress about things, not in my control. Fortunately, I was able to understand this very early on. That’s what helped me sail through as well,” she concluded.

Brad Pitt sued by woman claiming he tricked her into giving $100K illegally

Brad Pitt lawsuit filed

Hollywood’s famed actor Brad Pitt has been brought to jail after a Texas woman claimed he tricked her into giving $100,000 illegally.

The woman claims that Brad Pitt took $100,000 while luring her in for marriage by making her pay a whopping amount in a charity debacle.

To make matters worse, Kelli Christina has further alleged that the actor grew so close to her that they even discussed marriage.

Pitt’s solicitors maintain that Christina was conned by a cyber imposter who pretended to be the Oscar-winning actor, as revealed in court papers.

“Neither the Make It Right Entities nor Mr Pitt entered into an agreement with Plaintiff,” the documents said.

“Rather, as [Christina] herself has acknowledged, it appears [Christina’s] communications about any agreement were apparently with one or more individuals unlawfully posing as — but not in any way affiliated with — defendants online.”

“By [Christina’s] own admissions, the communications she now alleges to have had with Mr Pitt . . . were actually between Plaintiff and one or more individuals posing as, in Plaintiff’s words, ‘fake Brad Pitts’ and not in any way affiliated with the Make It Right Foundation.”
