ISLAMABAD: A strong overnight tremor jolted Islamabad and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa early Wednesday as a 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region, sending residents across several areas on alert.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department said the earthquake struck at 12:51 a.m. at a depth of 187 kilometers, with its epicenter in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region.
Tremors were felt in Islamabad and surrounding areas, as well as Peshawar, Malakand and several other districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage following the earthquake.
The U.S. Geological Survey recorded the quake at magnitude 5.3 and placed its epicenter about 35 kilometers south-southwest of Jurm in Afghanistan.
