Motorway Police make seat belts mandatory for all passengers

ISLAMABAD: The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) have made it mandatory for all passengers in public transport vehicles to wear seat belts.

According to an NHMP spokesperson, bus drivers and crew members must ensure that seat belts are used at all times. The rule applies to buses, coaches, and other passenger vehicles.

The spokesperson warned that passengers not wearing seat belts will face fines, and buses without seat belts for all seats will not be allowed to enter the motorway.

Spokeswoman Motorway Police said they fulfill legal and moral responsibilities for a safe journey.

Authorities said the move aims to enhance road safety and reduce injuries in case of accidents.

Earlier, National Highway and Motorway Police (NH&MP) had registered the first FIR over exceeding speed limits and also arrested the driver.

Motorway police have started registering cases for exceeding speed limits to 150km/hour.

NH&MP spokesman, the speeding incident took place at the motorway M4 near Multan, where a vehicle was going at a speed of 173 km / hour.

NH&MP spokesman said the case has been registered in the police station under the provisions of negligence and exceeding speed limits. Rahim Khan, a resident of Peshawar, has been detained and handed over to the local police.
