KARACHI: The board of directors of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation has approved a budget of RS 54.38 billion for the next financial year of 2027, focusing on financial transparency, improved performance, and modernization of systems.

The approval came during a board meeting chaired by Karachi Mayor and Water Corporation Chairman Barrister Murtaza Wahab. The meeting reviewed financial strategy, development priorities, operational needs, revenue generation, and efforts to improve water and sewerage services for citizens.

Officials said the approved budget aims to strengthen the organization financial capacity, modernize its administrative and operational systems, and ensure better public service delivery across the city.

Chief Financial Officer Ammar Ali Khan briefed the board on efforts to make financial management more transparent and efficient through the full activation of the SAP system. He said the digital platform will help streamline budgeting, spending oversight, procurement, financial reporting, and performance monitoring across departments.

He explained that SAP, or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), is a globally used system that helps large organizations manage financial and administrative operations more effectively. He added that its implementation will improve transparency, accountability, and overall efficiency while reducing reliance on manual processes.

According to officials, the system will provide real time financial data, support better planning, and improve decision making. It will also strengthen coordination between departments and promote stronger financial discipline within the organization.

The meeting was informed that the new budget includes allocations for improving water supply systems, repairing key infrastructure, restoring sewerage networks, upgrading drainage systems, and managing energy costs more efficiently. Funds have also been set aside to enhance institutional capacity and improve customer services.

Board members reaffirmed their commitment to improving water supply and sewerage services in the city by using all available resources. They said ongoing reforms would help make the organization more efficient, modern, and accountable.

At the end of the meeting, the board praised the efforts of the administration, particularly CEO Ahmed Ali Siddiqui and CFO Ammar Ali Khan, for promoting financial discipline and reform. They expressed hope that the approved budget and new ERP system would significantly improve overall performance and service delivery for citizens.
