The Sindh Health Department has confirmed a case of mpox in Karachi and has advised citizens to stay careful without panicking.
According to officials, a 20-year-old man from the Buffer Zone area tested positive for the virus.
The patient first showed symptoms on April 2, 2026, including high fever, headache, and skin rash. A PCR test conducted at Dow University of Health Sciences confirmed the infection on April 8. He has now been shifted to an isolation ward at Sindh Institute of Infectious Diseases, where doctors say his condition is stable.
Health authorities have also traced the patient’s parents and a cousin and placed them under observation, but none of them have shown any symptoms so far.
On the instructions of Sindh Director Dr Asif Syed, a special investigation team led by Dr Shankar has been formed to find out how the virus spread.
The health department has urged people to remain alert, follow safety measures, and visit a government hospital immediately if they experience high fever or unusual skin rashes.
