Euro 2020 Final: Tickets prices are skyrocketing on resale websites

Euro 2020 Final

The Euro 2020 final between England and Italy is expected to draw over 60,000 fans to Wembley Stadium on Sunday at 21:00 CEST, and it appears like everyone is keen to secure a ticket.

The final of Euro 2020 is sold out, but fans have been attempting to get tickets through resale websites, where prices have soared in the days leading up to the event, especially after England qualified on Wednesday night after defeating Denmark in the semi-finals.

The cheapest tickets available on second-hand internet platforms start at roughly 3,800 euros and have gone up to 20,000 euros on some websites, despite the fact that the tickets were originally priced at a moderate 95 euros, as specified on UEFA’s official website.

Fans have already expressed their dissatisfaction with the United Kingdom’s restrictive COVID-19 limitations, which require passengers to isolate for 10 days after arriving in England.

According to Reuters, UEFA has secured an agreement with the British government that will enable up to 1,000 fans to travel in from Italy to attend the final.

Italy has only won the European Championship once in their history, in 1968, and they finished second in 2000 and 2012, losing to France and Spain, respectively.

Meanwhile, England will compete in their first major final since winning the 1966 World Cup. They had never won the European Championship or even made it to the final previously. Until now.

Euro 2020: Full semifinal fixtures, Timings, Venue & confirmed teams

Euro 2020 semifinals

The UEFA EURO 2020 semi-final standoffs are confirmed following the completion of the quarter-finals.

The UEFA EURO 2020 semi-finals will both take place at Wembley Stadium in London, on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 July.

At the end of the quarter-final stage, the tournament is now left with four teams, Spain, Italy, Denmark and England, who have qualified for the quarterfinals.

Italy vs Spain (Tuesday 6 July, London)

This is the fourth straight EURO in which Italy have played Spain. At UEFA EURO 2008, Spain won 4-2 on penalties after a 0-0 quarter-final draw in Vienna. Four years later, they drew 1-1 in the group stage in Gdansk and then met again in the Kyiv final, Spain winning 4-0.

Italy turned the tables with a 2-0 round-of-16 win at Stade de France. In the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying, they drew 1-1 in Italy and Spain won 3-0 at home, and they have another semi-final lined up in October in the UEFA Nations League in Milan.

England vs Denmark (Wednesday 7 July, London)

England and Denmark have met once at a EURO, a 0-0 draw in the 1992 group stage in Malmö. Ten years later, England won their World Cup round of 16 ties 3-0 in Niigata.

More recently in the UEFA Nations League, it was 0-0 in Copenhagen in September 2020 before Denmark won 1-0 at Wembley a month later thanks to a Christian Eriksen penalty.

Euro 2020: Eriksen To Be Fitted With A heart-starter device After Collapse

Christian Eriksen heart-starter device

Denmark’s all-rounder footballer Christian Eriksen, who collapsed on the field during his side’s Euro 2020 opening match with Finland, will get a heart-starter device implanted.

According to media reports, Eriksen will receive an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD), a small electronic device that can limit fatal cardiac arrests by discharging a jolt to restore a regular heart rhythm.

The footballer’s life was saved when he was given CPR on the pitch during Denmark’s game on Saturday.

However, Denmark’s team doctor Morten Boesen has on Thursday issued an update saying, “After Christian has been through different heart examinations it has been decided that he should have an ICD (heart starter). This device is necessary after a cardiac attack due to rhythm disturbances.”

“Christian has accepted the solution and the plan has moreover been confirmed by specialists nationally and internationally who all recommend the same treatment.”

“We encourage everybody to give Christian and his family peace and privacy the following time,” he said.

Earlier, after the match was delayed following the medical emergency, the players came back out onto the field to a huge ovation as they started warming up for a second time.

Mathias Jensen hadreplaced Eriksen in the Denmark lineup. Eriksen was given urgent medical attention on the field for about 10 minutes after collapsing near the end of the first half.

He was then carried off on a stretcher. UEFA then announced the game had been suspended “due to a medical emergency.”

Moreover, speaking after the game, Denmark team doctor Morten Boesen, who treated Christian Eriksen, described what happened.

“I want to start by saying that I’ve had a talk with Christian’s family. I’m not going to say anything in detail right now. I want to say what we’ve seen, Boesen said. “We were called on to the pitch when Christian fell down. I didn’t see it myself, but it was pretty clear that he was unconscious. When I got to him, he is on his side. He is breathing and I can feel his pulse, but suddenly that changes. And as everyone saw, we started giving him CPR,” he told.

Euro 2020: “Denmark game among most difficult of career,” says Finland’s Pukki After Eriksen Panic

Christian Eriksen Teemu Pukki

Finland striker Teemu Pukki said their Euro 2020 opener against Denmark was one of the most difficult games of his career after Christian Eriksen collapsed on the field.

Danish footballer Christian Eriksen collapsed suddenly in the 42nd minute of the match, leading to the game being halted for more than 90 minutes.

“I must say it’s been definitely one of the most difficult games of my career. Hopefully, everything is getting a better direction now,” Pukki told.

“We decided to do what the Danish team would decide and were ready to continue whatever decision was taken. It was definitely not easy to come back to the pitch. But once we heard everything seemed to be fine, we started concentrating again on the game,” he added.

Christian Eriksen In Stable Condition

Eriksen has been stabilized, and the Danish football federation said he was awake, UEFA said.

“Christian Eriksen is awake and is undergoing further examinations at Rigshospitalet,” the Danish federation wrote on Twitter.

Danish football federation director Peter Moeller said Eriksen got a “heart massage” while being treated on the field.

“He fell over and got help and heart massage on the field,” Moeller told. “He was fortunately awake when he left the stadium,” he added.

However, the renowned footballer federal termed Eriksen as the “star of the match”.

On the other hand, UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin said, “Moments like this put everything in life into perspective. I wish Christian a full and speedy recovery and pray his family has strength and faith.”

“At these times, the unity of the football family is so strong and he and his family carry with them the good wishes and prayers of everyone. I heard of fans of both teams chanting his name. Football is beautiful and Christian plays it beautifully,” he added.

Mathias Jensen replaced Eriksen in the Denmark lineup. Eriksen was given urgent medical attention on the field for about 10 minutes after collapsing near the end of the first half.

He was then carried off on a stretcher. UEFA then announced the game had been suspended “due to a medical emergency.”
