As word of Elon Musk’s hostile takeover offer emerged on Twitter on Thursday, employees voiced anxiety that their workspaces would suffer under the firebrand tech mogul’s leadership, as well as fatigue about the company’s unclear future.
In recent weeks, Musk has mocked Twitter on the social network, reduced major company decisions to polls for his roughly 80 million followers — and disrupted the company’s “focus week,” with news of his takeover on Thursday, when it lowers superfluous meetings to provide employees time to concentrate on their projects.

According to people familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive matters, Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal held a companywide meeting that afternoon to reassure his workforce of 7,500 full-time employees by arguing that one man could not change a culture and that it was up to the company to set strategy.
Musk’s reputation, earned in part through his trolling on Twitter, is proving to be a liability among the social media company’s employees.
Twitter is well-known for its diverse staff and open work atmosphere. Musk, on the other hand, has appeared to ridicule gender pronouns, has spread coronavirus misinformation, and his firm Tesla has been the subject of numerous lawsuits for claimed racial discrimination and sexual harassment.
Several employees expressed their discontent with Musk on Thursday.
Employees at Twitter had a wild month as Musk first purchased a large investment in the firm, then agreed to join the board, then quit before he could join.
