US judge deemed controversial Elon Musk tweet on Tesla ‘false’: investors

Elon Musk

A 2018 tweet posted by Elon Musk in which he claimed to have secured the funding to take Tesla private was deemed “false and misleading” by a judge, according to documents filed by investors suing his electric car company.

The shareholders have accused Tesla of securities fraud over their stock market losses in the wake of the August 7, 2018 tweet, which caused the share price to fluctuate wildly for several days.

In a court filing late Friday, plaintiffs asked the federal judge in charge of the case, Edward Chen, to order Musk to stop saying publicly that he “secured” funding to take Tesla private at $420 a share, as he again stated on Thursday.

In the past, the billionaire entrepreneur has said he was in talks at the time with Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund and that he was confident he would reach a deal. But no agreement was ever announced.

According to the filing, Chen recently concluded in an order not made public that Musk’s statements were “false and misleading,” and made “recklessly and with full awareness of the facts that he misrepresented in his tweets.”

Plaintiffs accused Musk of engaging in “a high-profile public campaign to present a contradictory and false narrative regarding his August 7, 2018 tweets” — which could influence eventual jurors assigned to the trial set for later this year.

The Securities and Exchange Commission, the US market regulator, also charged him with fraud in the wake of the tweets.

He eventually agreed to a deal to settle the charges, which required Tesla’s lawyers to review any social media posts with information deemed “material” to shareholders.

He also paid a $20 million fine and stepped down as Tesla’s chairman.

Musk, who has unveiled a $43 billion hostile takeover bid for Twitter, said Thursday he felt forced into the deal with the SEC to save Tesla.

Elon Musk’s Twitter bid worried employees ‘Its a huge risk’

Elon Musk’s Twitter bid worried employees 'Its a huge risk'

As word of Elon Musk’s hostile takeover offer emerged on Twitter on Thursday, employees voiced anxiety that their workspaces would suffer under the firebrand tech mogul’s leadership, as well as fatigue about the company’s unclear future.

In recent weeks, Musk has mocked Twitter on the social network, reduced major company decisions to polls for his roughly 80 million followers — and disrupted the company’s “focus week,” with news of his takeover on Thursday, when it lowers superfluous meetings to provide employees time to concentrate on their projects.

According to people familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive matters, Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal held a companywide meeting that afternoon to reassure his workforce of 7,500 full-time employees by arguing that one man could not change a culture and that it was up to the company to set strategy.

Musk’s reputation, earned in part through his trolling on Twitter, is proving to be a liability among the social media company’s employees.

Twitter is well-known for its diverse staff and open work atmosphere. Musk, on the other hand, has appeared to ridicule gender pronouns, has spread coronavirus misinformation, and his firm Tesla has been the subject of numerous lawsuits for claimed racial discrimination and sexual harassment.

Several employees expressed their discontent with Musk on Thursday.

Employees at Twitter had a wild month as Musk first purchased a large investment in the firm, then agreed to join the board, then quit before he could join.

Elon Musk

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced at a celebration marking the inauguration of a Texas factory that the company will construct a vehicle specifically for use as a robotaxi and that it will begin producing three new vehicles next year.

Musk didn’t reveal much about the robotaxi save that it will “look extremely futuristic,” according to Musk. He also stated that Tesla will begin producing the Cybertruck pickup next year at its new facility outside Austin, Texas. After that, he claimed, it will begin work on a new Roadster and an electric truck.

He made his remarks at Tesla’s new billion-dollar-plus factory’s “Cyber Rodeo at Giga Texas,” an invitation-only party for thousands of attendees.

The exclusive celebration to commemorate the opening of the new facility in Travis County, which also acts as the company’s new headquarters following its relocation from California, was expected to draw up to 15,000 guests.

Musk said at a live-streamed event on YouTube on Thursday night that Tesla was delivering the first Model Y compact SUVs made at the new facility, which he claims can produce 500,000 of the SUVs per year.

This year, Musk added, the Austin factory, as well as a new one in Germany, would be scaled up. In addition, he stated that the corporation may begin developing a robot in 2023.  “Next year there’s going to be a massive wave of new products,” he told the crowd Thursday night.

The firm is the world’s and the United States’ largest manufacturer of electric automobiles.
