Motorway rape case: Another suspect Shafqat arrested, his DNA matches with samples

The Lahore police on Monday arrested a man named Shafqat, an alleged accused in motorway rape case in Lahore.

Shafqat is a friend of Abid Ali, the main accused in the Motorway rape case.

In a major breakthrough of the case, the DNA of suspect Shafqat has matched with the samples collected from the crime scene, security personnel confirmed on Monday.

However, Waqar’s DNA does not match with samples collected from the scene.

According to the details, the police officers arrested Shafqat on the identification of alleged co-accused Waqar-ul-Hassan, who has surrendered before CIA police station in Lahore‘s Model Town yesterday.

Revelations made by Waqar-ul-Hassan

While making important revelations during interrogation, Waqar told that prime suspect Abid has committed several heinous crimes with his accomplice Shafqat who is currently under arrest.

Afterwards, CIA has sent teams to Bahawalnagar, Lahore and Sheikhupura for the arrest of Shafqat.

On the other hand, Waqar is likely to be presented before the local court whereas identification parade will also be held to recognize the suspects.

Lahore CCPO summoned by LHC over blaming remarks on Motorway rape incident

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has summoned Lahore CCPO Umer Sheikh over inappropriate remarks blaming the victim for the recent Motorway gang rape incident.

The LHC has summoned Lahore CCPO to explain his position on the matter.

A bench of the high court headed by Chief Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan was hearing a writ petition seeking the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the incident. He directed the Lahore police chief to appear in personal capacity in short a while.

Over the course of the hearing, the chief justice remarked that the entire provincial cabinet should have tendered an apology over the CCOP’s statement. “What investigation is this? The CCPO is putting the blame on the rape victim.”

Alleged co-accused of the recent Lahore Motorway rape incident, Waqar-ul-Hassan is likely to be presented before the local court today (Monday).

Motorway Rape Incident suspect surrenders

The horrific Lahore motorway rape incident, which took place on Tuesday night, when a woman was traveling with her children was robbed and gang-raped by two men.

One of the two suspects of the motorway rape incident, Waqar ul Hassan, today has surrendered and denied his charges before Lahore police.

Suspect’s DNA matches with woman’s sample

A breakthrough occurred on Saturday in the Lahore motorway gang rape incident when the sample of DNA of one of the suspects matched with the samples taken from the victim.

According to the details, the suspect’s DNA sample was already present in the Forensic Science Agency’s DNA bank. Police said that the suspect has a criminal record and that important progress has been made in the case, however, no arrests have been done yet.

IG Punjab dismisses reports of any arrest

Earlier, the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab police, Inam Ghani had dismissed reports that a suspect in the Lahore Motorway gang rape case has been arrested.

He added that he would share the news of any arrest himself as he is directly monitoring the investigations.

“Such unconfirmed news affects the case and is also misleading for the public,” he said. He also said that pictures of the woman and the suspect of the case being shared on social media were fake. He requested the media to confirm facts before reporting on such sensitive issues.

IG Punjab Refused To Defend Victim-Blaming Comments By CCPO Lahore

Inspector General IG Punjab Inam Ghani on Saturday refused to defend the victim-blaming comments by Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Umar Sheikh on the Lahore motorway rape incident.

Stressing that in “no way the victim can be blamed for the horrific event”, IG Punjab said: “[The] guard cannot tell the owner of the house to protect their belongings themselves.”

Meanwhile, Law Minister Raja Basharat had also termed the CCPO’s statement ‘inappropriate’ and maintained that he does not approve or agree with whatever the CCPO had earlier said.
