UAE’s leader extends best wishes to Sheikh Rasheed after new portfolio

The newly-appointed Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed held a telephonic conversation with United Arab Emirates (UAE)’s senior minister Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan.

Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan congratulated Sheikh Rasheed on his appointment as Interior Minister and said that he deserved this position.

The interior minister thanked him for his best wishes.

Earlier, Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed has on Tuesday called for early end to the visa restrictions of United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Pakistani citizens.

He held discussion with UAE Ambassador to Pakistan, Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Al-Zaabi.

On the occasion, the interior minister also stressed the need that UAE should extend cooperation for bringing back Pakistanis imprisoned in UAE.

He said Pakistan and the UAE have long-standing ties. He said 1.5 million Pakistani workers in the UAE were a valuable asset, and they send foreign exchange of worth five billion dollars to Pakistan annually. Efforts will be continued for promotion of bilateral ties, he added.

He said that talks were under way for the resumption of visas and assured that the issuance of visas will soon resume. “The relations between the countries have improved under Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government.”

However, the ambassador said the Pakistani community had an exemplary role in the development of UAE

Sheikh Rasheed becomes new Interior Minister

Sheikh Rasheed has become the new Minister of Interior after Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved the reshuffle of two key ministers.

In Rasheed’s replacement, Azam Swati will be made the new Railway Minister.

According to the details, both the ministers were informed of the decision met Imran Khan before the decision. Moreover, a cabinet reshuffle notification will be issued this week.

Retired Brigadier Ijaz Shah has become the new Minister for Anti-Narcotics Control and Abdul Hafeez Sheikh is given the designation of Finance Minister.

Earlier in the day, Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh has been sworn in as Federal Minister. President Dr. Arif Alvi administered the oath to Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh at a ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr.

According to the details, the move came in light of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) decision on the inclusion of advisers and special assistants in cabinet committees.
