ECP issues schedule for NA, PAs by-elections

SLAMABAD:  The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has released the schedule for the by-elections of the National and Provincial Assemblies.

According to the Election Commission, by-elections will be held on April 21 for vacant seats across the country.

According to ECP, by-elections will be held on 6 seats of National Assembly, 12 seats of Punjab Assembly, while by-elections will be held on 2 seats of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, 2 seats of Balochistan Assembly and one seat of Sindh Assembly.

As per the schedule, candidates can file their nomination papers from March 16-18. The nominated candidates’ names will be published on March 18.

Meanwhile, the scrutiny of the papers by the returning officers (RO) will be held on March 21 while candidates, whose papers have been rejected, can file appeals on the RO’s decision till March 25.

The appellate tribunal must then decide on the appeals by March 28 and the revised list of candidates will be issued the same day.

Candidates who wish to withdraw from the polls can do so by March 29 and the next day — March 30 running candidates will be allotted election symbols.

The polling will be held on April 21.

JUI-F issues final lists of candidates

ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazal) has released the final list of its candidates contesting National Assembly and Provincial Assemblies seats across the country.

The spokesperson of JUI said 122 candidates are in the field for the National Assembly from all over the country, 110 candidates for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, and 51 candidates for the Balochistan Assembly will participate in the elections.

The spokesman further said JUI has nominated 134 candidates for the Punjab Assembly and 52 candidates for the Sindh Assembly.

JUI-F spokesperson has said that despite the bad law and order situation, the party will run a vigorous election campaign.

Spokesperson JUI Punjab has said in a statement that former provincial minister Makhdoom Haroon Sultan has joined JUI and he will contest the election from NA-177 Muzaffargarh on JUI ticket.

A spokesman said Makhdoom Haroon Sultan Bukhari will also participate in the election from PP 272 and 274.
