Boy in Faisalabad dies after losing a PUBG game: Reports

A young boy in Faisalabad lost his life on Monday after he reportedly “failed to win” a game of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) online, family sources said.

According to hospital staff, the young boy, who hailed from Jaranwala, was shifted to the hospital yesterday in an unconscious state.

The family said that the young man had been playing the online game for the last six months. Losing the last stage of the game last night had a profound effect on the young man’s mind, they added.

However, the exact cause of death was not explained.

PUBG Pakistan was previously banned in Pakistan on a temporary basis after reports emerged that it had negative effects on the minds of the youth.

PUBG ban: PTA to take final decision today

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has concluded hearing whether ban on online game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) will be extended or removed.

The authority, earlier issued a hearing notice to all respondents. It had allowed them to join the meeting via video link because of the ongoing coronavirus situation.

Meanwhile, #PTALiftBanOnPUBG is trending on Twitter as social media users demand to lift PUBG ban from Pakistan.

A temporary ban was imposed on the battle royale game on July 1. The authority said it received ‘numerous complaints against PUBG wherein it is stated that the game is addictive, wastage of time and poses a serious negative impact on the physical and psychological health of children.’

Petitions were filed against the ban in the Sindh High Court (SHC) and the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
