Body of missing child found in water underground tank

KARACHI: The body of seven-years old child Sarim, the missing from North Karachi, has been found from underground water tank.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Central, the search for 7-year-old Sarim, who went missing 11 days ago, was ongoing. The body of the child was found in the underground tank of the building, which has been sent for post-mortem.

SSP Central further said that the incident appears to have taken place accidentally.

It should be noted that after this incident, the child’s parents received a ransom message of Rs 500,000.

Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori also visited the child’s home and met the parents and assured full support for the child’s recovery.

Parts of Karachi experience light to heavy rain

KARACHI: The different parts of Karachi received light to heavy rain on Friday morning while the Sindh government has already declared a rain emergency across the Sindh province.

Rain is continuing intermittently in North Karachi, Surjani Town, Manghopir, Northern Bypass, Korangi Industrial Area, and Malir areas of Karachi.

It should be noted that the Meteorological Department had predicted four spells of rain in Karachi from this afternoon due to which a rain emergency was imposed in the city.

In the context of the forecast of rains, a half-day holiday has been announced in government and private institutions, while a holiday has been announced in private and government schools in the evening shift.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah imposed a rain emergency across the province and canceled the holidays by issuing a high alert in all local bodies, administrations, and hospitals.

The Chief Minister of Sindh has also appealed to the people not to leave their homes unnecessarily, while an emergency cell has also been set up in the Cantonment Headquarters.

On behalf of KMC, machinery for rainwater drainage has been delivered across Karachi city.

Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab said that the city’s drains and choke points have been opened.

The weather expert maintained that the spell of rain across Pakistan is likely to last till March 3.

KARACHI:As many as 76 people lost their lives and 133 others injured due to the heavy rains across the country since June.

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) report stated that nine people have lost their lives and eight others injured in the heavy rains across the country in the last 24 hours.

NDMA data shows that so far 76 deaths and 133 injuries to people have been reported, which includes 15 women and 31 children, whereas 78 houses have so far been damaged as torrential rain continued to play havoc across the country.

Punjab has the most number of people who died where 48 people were in the heavy rains and 20 lost their lives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), five were killed in Balochistan, the NDMA report read.

On the other hand, light and heavy rain started in different areas of Karachi which is likely to continue in the city till July 10.

There was heavy rain in Sachal Goth, Sohrab Goth, Airport, North Karachi, Malir, Saudabad, Model Colony, and surrounding areas.

There was heavy rain in Shahreh e Faisal, Gulshan Iqbal, Gulshan eMaymar, Gulistan e Jauhar, Safora Chowrangi, Surjani Town, North Karachi, Ayesha Manzil, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad. Rain was also recorded in Landhi, Korangi, and Ibrahim Hydari.

The meteorological department says that heavy rain will continue in the city during the night, and rain will continue intermittently during the day tomorrow. 40 to 50 mm of rain is expected.

Karachi: Micro-smart lockdown imposed in many central towns

The Karachi administration has imposed micro smart lockdown in more areas of the city due to the significant rise in coronavirus cases.

As per the details, a notification has also been rolled out in this regard, according to which  micro smart lockdown has been imposed in many blocks of Gulberg, Liaquatabad, North Karachi and North Nazimabad towns.

With an immediate effect and with a validity of at least two weeks, the notification says the movement of those living in these areas under lockdown shall be restricted.

While it adds that only grocery shops and pharmacies will remain open on specific timing laid out by the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC).

All public transport including private ride-hailing services will be restricted to enter these areas as well, the notification said.

Separately, not even home delivery or take away service will be allowed here while all industrial units falling in these areas will remain shut as well in this period.

The notification also said that no family gatherings or events will be allowed in the areas covered by the notification today.

Coronavirus Situation in Pakistan

It should be noted that Pakistan has recorded 113 more deaths related to the novel coronavirus and 4414 infections in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the Special Assistant to Prime Minister on National Health, Dr Faisal Sultan has said that the COVID-19 vaccine is very effective to protect citizens from medical complications of many virus variants.

In a statement, he said keeping in view the detection of new COVID-19 variants in Pakistan and raising questions on the effectiveness of vaccine process, the country men are advised to must go for vaccination against the virus to avoid facing more complications and hospitalization.

He made it clear that there are so many variants of COVID-19 in the world presently, and some virus variants have a tendency of having more chances of re-occurrence of infection.

Dr Faisal Sultan said regardless of which variants have been detected, the SOPs recommended globally continue to be our first line of defence against coronavirus.
