Pakistan welcomes Declaration of Unity by Palestinian factions

Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan welcomed the ‘Declaration of Unity’ signed by the Palestinian political factions in Beijing while recognizing and commending China’s role in bringing the factions together for meaningful negotiations.

“Unity amongst the Palestinian people is of paramount significance in view of the ongoing war crimes against the Palestinian people, particularly in Gaza, and the blatant disregard for international law by the Israeli occupation forces,” Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said at her weekly press briefing here.

Calling upon the international community to intervene immediately to bring an end to the ongoing illegal and incessant aggression in Gaza, she reiterated Pakistan’s support for the realization of the inalienable right to self-determination of the Palestinian people, their right of return to Palestine and the establishment of an independent state of Palestine with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

Regarding the periodic report of the Human Rights Committee in Geneva on India, she said during the proceedings, important questions were raised about arrests under draconian laws like Public Safety Act and Public Security Act, and frequent suspension of mobile internet service in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

“This demonstrates continuing concerns of the international human rights machinery about the dismal human rights situation in IIOJK. We call on the international community to take note of these human rights abuses by India in IIOJK and to bring an end to the suppression of the Kashmiri people,” she said and reiterated Pakistan’s continued political, diplomatic and moral support to Kashmiri people.

The spokesperson announced that at the invitation of the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif will visit Tehran on July 30, 2024, to attend the inauguration ceremony of the President-elect of Iran Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian.

FO

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Friday said that with over 22,000 women widowed and 107,000 children orphaned, the sufferings of the families in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) remained unended due to the unabated occupation and oppression of the Indian forces.

Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, at her weekly press briefing, expressed solidarity with the Kashmiri families that remained divided and continued to suffer due to Indian oppression for the last several decades.

“The estimates of widowed women and orphaned children exceed 22,000 and 107,000 respectivelyThousands of half-widows are awaiting the return of their husbands who have presumably been killed by Indian forces.

The plight of the families of the victims of enforced disappearance is equally lamentable,” the spokesperson remarked, referring to the annual International Day of Families observed on May 15.

Calling the ruthless Indian oppression the root cause of the suffering of Kashmiri families, the spokesperson urged India to allow Kashmiris to practice their right to self-determination as guaranteed by the UN Security Council’s resolutions.

Highlighting the diplomatic engagements that took place during the last week, the spokesperson started with the visit of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar to China to co-chair the Fifth Pakistan-China Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, where he also met with Chinese vice premier, and ministers for IDCPC and finance and others.

The two sides agreed to accelerate progress on major connectivity projects including the upgradation of ML-1, the Gwadar Port, realignment of Karakoram Highway Phase II, and strengthen cooperation in agriculture, industrial parks, mining, information technology, and other fields.

China reiterated its position on IIOJK calling for its peaceful resolution by the UN Charter, relevant UN Security Council resolutions, and bilateral agreements. She also apprised the media of the 6th Round of Pakistan-Latvia Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC) held here wherein two sides agreed to expand bilateral cooperation in trade and investment, energy, education and technology, and labor mobility.

At the Pakistan-U.S. Counterterrorism Dialogue held on May 10, 2024, in Washington DC, she said both countries underscored the cooperation in addressing the most pressing challenges to regional and global security, including Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and ISIS-Khorasan.

Pakistan calls for end to inhumane blockade of Gaza

Pakistan
  • Pakistan deeply concerned on fast-deteriorating situation in Gaza.
  • The decision to cut off electricity and water supplies is unjust.
  • Pakistan constantly warning against serious consequences of Israel’s escalatory.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday strongly condemning the indiscriminate use of force by Israeli authorities in Gaza, called for an end to the “inhumane” blockade causing the humanitarian situation, besides urging the United Nations’ proactive role in facilitating a ceasefire.

“We are deeply concerned about the fast-deteriorating and dire humanitarian situation in Gaza due to the inhumane blockade and collective punishment by Israeli forces. The decision to cut off electricity, fuel and water supplies is unjust and should be reversed, as it would severely impact the lives of the Palestinians residing in the enclave,” Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said in her press briefing.

She said the unprecedented gravity of the situation demanded urgent intervention by the international community. “We urge the United Nations to play a proactive role in facilitating a ceasefire to alleviate the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza,” she said. She called upon Israel to bring an immediate end to its campaign of indiscriminate bombing against the people of Gaza. “It should fulfill its obligations as an occupying power under international law, lift the blockade and allow unhindered access to humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people,” the spokesperson remarked.

She said the current cycle of aggression and violence was a sad reminder and a direct consequence of over seven decades of illegal foreign occupation, aggression, and disrespect for international law, including UNSC resolutions that recognized the inalienable right to self-determination of the Palestinian people. Pakistan has been constantly warning against serious consequences of Israel’s escalatory and provocative actions in recent months, she added.

Spokesperson Baloch called for the international community’s role for a just, comprehensive, and lasting two-state solution with a viable, sovereign and contiguous State of Palestine on the basis of pre-1967 borders, with Al Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
