Berrettini has now won his last 10 games after missing Wimbledon due to Covid. After skipping Europe’s spring clay season due to a right hand injury, he grabbed championships on grass in Stuttgart and London in June.
The World No. 15 is making his second appearance in Gstaad after winning the title in 2018 without dropping a set.
Earlier, Czech Jiri Lehecka was defeated by Casper Ruud to advance to the quarterfinals as he began his title defence.
The top seed won the ATP 250 tournament last year with just one set loss, and she once more appeared at ease playing on clay in Switzerland. After one hour and 39 minutes of play in their initial ATP Head2Head match, the Norwegian saved all five break points he was presented with to move on.
