LUMS’s students organize shaadi day & internet is going crazy over it

LUMS
  • LUMS students decided to take the University’s celebrations a step further.
  • They came up with the wonderful but bizarre idea of shaadi day!
  • Two seniors are chosen to play the roles of the bride and groom.

Universities typically mix food and lengthy speeches for parties, but LUMS students decided to take the celebrations a step further and came up with the wonderful but bizarre idea of shaadi day! How does that work properly?

A three-day mock wedding is staged after a campaign in which two seniors are chosen to play the roles of the bride and groom. Students from Lums have provided videos from the activities, and it was quite wholesome to watch.

It is heartening that some students are donning their creative caps to plan something like this, in contrast to the intolerance and violence we routinely encounter in colleges. We hope additional institutions imitate what these students are doing to create inclusive events for some lighthearted fun. What these students are doing is great. Why are you so critical of other people’s happiness, naysayers who deem this cringe-worthy and overhyped? We should cease overly policing students and allow them to have fun, especially in light of the numerous acts of racism and violence that continue to occur in campuses.
