Vice President-elect Kamala Harris has officially resigned from her Senate seat, ending her four-year innings in the upper chamber of the US Congress.

Kamala Harris’s resignation from the Senate came two days before the 56-year-old’s swearing in on Wednesday along with President-elect Joe Biden, making history as the first female, first Black and first South-Asian American vice president of the US.

Ms Harris has formally submitted her letter of resignation to California Governor Gavin Newsom.

“I hereby resign as Senator from the State of California, effective January 18th.”

“As I assume my duties as Vice President of the United States, I would like to thank the people of California for the honour of serving them in the U.S. Senate over the past four years,” Harris’ resignation letter read.

Kamala Harris won her seat in November 2016 and sworn in on January 2017. At the time, Harris was California’s attorney general.

However, Alex Padilla, California’s secretary of state, has already been named to fill Harris’ seat.

After losing the victory in US Presidential elections 2020 against Joe Biden, former President Donald Trump came out to be aggressive as he fired Defence Secretary Mark Esper, announcing on Twitter that the top US official has been “terminated”.

According to the details, Christopher Miller will replace Mark Esper immediately. Miller, however, currently serves as director of the National Counterterrorism Center.

It follows a public falling-out between Mr Trump and Mr Esper in recent weeks.

Trump and Esper repeatedly collided over pressure from the White House to deploy federal troops to quash civil unrest.

Whereas, the President’s plan is abruptly withdraw U.S. troops from Afghanistan; putting the national security establishment’s plans under danger.

As Democratic party’s Joe Biden witnesses a clear victory ahead of US Presidential elections 2020, he expressed his confidence to be the President-elect.

In his address, Joe Biden said that he feels confident enough to gain the victory of Presidency.

Following a series of his addressing on Twitter, Donald Trump’s competitor said, “I’m confident that we will emerge victorious. But this will not be my victory alone. It will be a victory for the American people.”

US Elections: Joe Biden wins Michigan; needs 6 more votes to gain victory

The counting of all electoral votes completed in Michigan for US Presidential Elections and Democrat Joe Biden is just six votes away from his victory.

According to US media, Joe Biden has won the state of Michigan and Democratic nominee adds 16 electoral votes to his column in the presidential race.

Joe Biden leads the race for the presidency with 253 electoral votes. President Trump has 213 electoral votes

The win gives Biden 264 electoral votes. Having further votes from the remaining states would let him reach 270 electoral votes and he would be president-elect. He only needs more six electoral votes to be the President replacing Donald Trump.

On the other hand, the now President, Donald Trump still needs 56 electoral votes to gain the victory as he took 214 votes until now.

The decision of 60 electoral votes from 5 states is still remaining. Trump’s campaign is considering taking legal action in Arizona and Nevada as votes are still being counted, media reports said.

There are still about 20,000 mail-in ballots to be counted in Georgia’s Fulton County.

In one of the biggest upsets of the 2016 election, Trump won Michigan by just under 11,000 votes. The Great Lakes State had not voted for a Republican in a presidential election since 1988.

On Wednesday, Joe Biden won in Wisconsin by 20,697 votes. 45% results had been announced so far In Alaska, Trump had a lead of more than 51,000 votes over Joe Biden 95% results in Alaska.

In Georgia, Trump had a lead of more than 81,000 votes over Joe Biden. North Carolina had 15 electoral votes and it has reported 94% results.

President Trump leads with more than 76,000 votes in North Carolina.

However, Pennsylvania had 20 electoral votes with 64% results as Trump leads in Pennsylvania by 461,000 votes over Joe Biden.
