Joe Biden being pushed to send more Covid-19 medical help to India

Afghanistan War: Biden Says He Has No Regrets Over Troop Withdrawals

After the US President Joe Biden announced that the US will allocate 75% – nearly 1.9 crore of the first tranche of 2.5 crore doses – of unused Covid-19 vaccines from its stockpile to countries in South and Southeast Asia as well as Africa by the end of June, American lawmakers called on the US government to send more vaccines and medical assistance to India.

As part of his administration’s strategy for distributing 80 million (8 crores) vaccines globally, Biden stated the US will share the vaccine with several countries to fight the epidemic through the UN-backed COVAX global vaccine sharing program.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said, “The crisis in India is devastating and demands more action from (President Joe) Biden. More Covid-19 vaccines and medical supplies are needed to help one of our most important global allies fight this virus,”

Senator Ted Cruz, a Republican, stated that about 300 million doses of Covid-19 vaccination have been provided in the United States.

“India is a critical friend of the US. Biden’s vaccine sharing programme is flawed: We should prioritise our allies such as India, and make sure it receives the Covid-19 vaccines they desperately need,” he said.

Hill, who is a member of the House Financial Services Committee said, “The situation in India, one of our closest allies, is dire. I encourage the Biden administration to support India with vaccines in their time of need,”

Congressman August Pfluger said, “We should immediately send additional vaccines and critical medical supplies,”

India reported 1,00,636 fresh Covid-19 cases on Monday, the lowest in 61 days, taking the infection tally to 2,89,09,975, according to the Union Health Ministry’s latest data. The death toll due to coronavirus reached 3,49,186 with 2,427 new fatalities, the lowest in around 45 days.

US Visas Refused Under Trump’s ‘Muslim Ban’ Can Now Be Reapplied

Muslim ban by Donald Trump

The Muslims who had been denied to enter the United States (US) during Donald Trump’s occupancy, can now reapply, the State Department announced.

Former US President Donald Trump had imposed a travel ban on majority-Muslim countries including Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Libya and Yemen.

However, the US Department of State said that people can now resend their applications to enter the country after facing a long-term travel ban by the Trump administration.

The newly-elected President Joe Biden, on his first day at the office on January 20, had signed an executive order to end Trump’s ban on Muslims, terming it “a stain on our national conscience”.

A spokesman for the US Department of State had informed that the visas of those people who were rejected before Biden’s new regulation, may now submit new requests and pay a new fee in this regard.

Whereas, those visas which were rejected before January 20 can now reapply without resubmitting their applications and with no additional fee either, added the spokesperson.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump had imposed sanctions on Iran, after which Iran will not be able to sell oil to Syria and Venezuela. This is considered to be another tactic of President Trump to win the next presidential election.

The Trump administration had been imposing tough sanctions on the Islamic Republic of Iran since 2018, aimed at curbing oil exports and completely shutting off the financial resources of US regional allies Saudi Arabia and Israel.

Under the new decision, the Trump administration on Monday, October 26, added Iran’s state-owned National Iranian Oil Company, Iran’s Ministry of Petroleum and the National Iranian Tanker Company to the Anti-Terrorism Authority’s list. It is also possible that this decision has been reversed.
