President Biden to sign 10 executive orders to fight against COVID

On the first day at office, after taking oath as the 46th United States (US) President, Joe Biden signed executive orders to reverse several hard-line immigration policies and also sent a bill to Congress that proposes opening a path to citizenship for an estimated 11 million immigrants.

Also, Joe Biden is set to sign 10 executive orders to boost the fight against the deadly COVID outbreak which has ravaged the US.

Vaccination will be accelerated and testing increased. Emergency legislation will be used to increase production of essentials like masks.

In a break with former President Donald Trump, the policy stresses a national strategy rather than relying on states to decide what is best.

Joe Biden takes the oath of office to officially become the 46th President of the United States (US) here on Wednesday.

Joe Biden, 78, took the oath of office from Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts at a solemn ceremony at the US Capitol.

Before Biden, Kamala Harris was sworn in as US vice president, becoming the first black woman and the first Asian American to hold the office.

Democrat Biden has become the oldest US president in history at a scaled-back ceremony in Washington that has been largely stripped of its usual pomp and circumstance, due both to the coronavirus and security concerns following the January 6 assault on the US Capitol by Trump supporters.

However, Prime Minister Imran Khan congratulates Joe Biden as he took charge of the office.

The premier eyes further enhancing Pak-US partnership through trade & economic engagement, countering climate change, improving public health, combating corruption & promoting peace in region.

Moreover, Oscar-winning singer-songwriter Lady Gaga took the stage and sand the national anthem of America during the inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

On the other hand, Former US President Donald Trump, a Republican, left the White House with his wife Melania and went by helicopter to a sendoff event at Joint Air Force Base Andrews, where he promised supporters “we’ll be back in some form” and flew off to Florida.
