Shehbaz Sharif orders building of Health Tower in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the authorities concerned to build a health tower of international standard in the federal capital to house hospitals, medical and nursing universities, modern laboratories, and diagnostics centers.

The prime minister, chairing a meeting to review the matters related to the Ministry of National Health Services, instructed to formulate a strategy to build the said tower through the public-private partnership.

Highlighting the significant responsibilities of the health sector to save human lives, the prime minister expressed his concerns about the reported new polio cases in the country and resolved the elimination of the disease by utilising all-out- resources in collaboration with partners.

He also called for carrying out the third-party audit of the laboratories working under the purview of the Ministry of National Health Services, besides appointing well-qualified health professionals in the ministry and its allied departments.

Vowing to personally monitor health-related matters, Prime Minister Shehbaz also ordered the third-party audit of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan and the formulation of a strategy to bifurcate the drug processing from the Authority.

Besides, he also instructed outsourcing the human resource of all government hospitals in  Islamabad and their waste treatment plants, besides the audit of countrywide nursing schools and colleges.

During the briefing, the prime minister was told that a National Blood Transfusion and Blood Products Policy would be introduced soon, and work on a nursing and midwifery policy framework was in the final stage.

It was told that an evening shift was being introduced in the nursing colleges to increase the number of graduates.

As the prime minister was told about the installation of new health equipment worth Rs 711 million in  Islamabad’s hospitals, he instructed the third-party audit of the purchase of the said equipment.

It was informed that a modern hospital management system would be installed in Islambad’s hospitals and that waste management plants were operating in the capital city’s five public and four private sector hospitals.

The participants of the meeting were told that a strategy for insulin manufacturing in the country was being formulated.

PM directs for report over provision of relief to rain affected people

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif directed for submission of a report regarding swift completion and transparent provision of relief to the people affected by recent torrential rains across the country.

He also directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to accomplish a joint survey report in collaboration with the provinces, besides enhancement of cooperation with the provinces to face the future calamities.

The prime minister also sought an implementation report over his directive in the previous tenure regarding technical improvement of NDMA.

The prime minister was given a detailed briefing by the NDMA about the relief and rehabilitation activities in the wake of recent torrential rains as well as weather forecast and preparedness.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Economic Affairs and Establishment Ahad Khan Cheema, Chairman NDMA Lt Gen. Inam Haider Malik and relevant senior officials.

The meeting was apprised of the recent damages, rescue efforts and distribution of assistance amount. The NDMA with assistance of provinces; specially Balochistan would soon complete a collective verification survey over number of complete and partially damaged houses.

Under the prime minister’s directive, a total of 766,000 kg dry ration would be distributed in Gwadar till March 24 out of which about 388,000 kg ration had been distributed so far till March 16. Moreover, 97,000 kg ration had been distributed in Quetta and Dalbadin, it was further informed.

The prime minister directed that the relief process should be completed immediately, besides ensuring transparency in its distribution. With earlier completion of joint survey, the aid should be provided to the affected people only, he stressed, adding that affected people from the recent rains could not be left in despair and it was among government’s top priority to support them.

The meeting was further informed about the weather forecast during April to June and July to September in the current season and the preparedness of NMDA.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif felicitated the Christian community in Pakistan and around the world on the auspicious occasion of Christmas.

In a message on the occasion of Christmas celebrated on December 25, the PM said that Christmas gave a message of universal love, brotherhood, tolerance, and sacrifices and these values played a crucial role in putting a society on the path of development.

He said Hazrat Isa (AS) was a panacea for the sorrow of humans and spread God’s message to the whole humanity.

“Hazrat Isa (AS) made better the worldly life and hereafter of humanity and his moral teachings and guidance were a beacon of light for everyone, ” the PM said.

He underlined the need for following the values of compassion, love, tolerance, and brotherhood in the 21st century to strengthen the moral fabric of humanity.

He pointed out that across the world in the last few decades, a wave of religious intolerance had intensified and the humans needed to follow the message of interfaith harmony and religious tolerance to stop this negative trend.

The nations would have to make the message of love of Hazrat Isa (AS), their guiding light, to eradicate hate and create a peaceful world.

He said history was a witness that the Christian community in Pakistan played a positive role in every walk of life, including in defence, judiciary, and education. The PM hailed the community for rendering significant contributions to the progress and development of the country.

He said the sacrifices of the Christian community for the integrity and solidarity of Pakistan were unforgettable.

“In the Pakistan of Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah every person has complete religious freedom and the Constitution of Pakistan gives a special protection to the minorities,” he asserted.

The minorities were not only given equal rights but had complete liberty to worship according to their religion and their religious places were protected, he added.
