Freddie Mercury was a British singer who rose to prominence as the lead singer of the rock band Queen. He was recognized for his flamboyant stage demeanor and four-octave vocal range and was regarded as one of the best singers in rock music history.
Freddie Mercury announced his AIDS diagnosis to the public on November 23, 1991. In a statement, the actor expressed his desire for the entire globe to join him in the “battle against the dreadful disease.” Freddie died the next day, on November 24, 1991, at the age of 45.
Only a few months later, in February 1992, the rest of Queen’s members announced plans for a tribute performance to the singer.
The remaining members of Queen, as well as a large number of rock and pop stars from around the world, performed at Wembley Stadium on this day in 1992.
The Freddie Mercury estate is hosting an online screening of the legendary event to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the tribute concert. The concert has previously been released on VHS, DVD, and Digital, however, this online screening is open to all fans for 48 hours and is free.
