30th anniversary of the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert

Freddie Mercury was a British singer who rose to prominence as the lead singer of the rock band Queen. He was recognized for his flamboyant stage demeanor and four-octave vocal range and was regarded as one of the best singers in rock music history.

Freddie Mercury announced his AIDS diagnosis to the public on November 23, 1991. In a statement, the actor expressed his desire for the entire globe to join him in the “battle against the dreadful disease.” Freddie died the next day, on November 24, 1991, at the age of 45.

Only a few months later, in February 1992, the rest of Queen’s members announced plans for a tribute performance to the singer.

The remaining members of Queen, as well as a large number of rock and pop stars from around the world, performed at Wembley Stadium on this day in 1992.

The Freddie Mercury estate is hosting an online screening of the legendary event to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the tribute concert. The concert has previously been released on VHS, DVD, and Digital, however, this online screening is open to all fans for 48 hours and is free.

Watch Video: Brian May shares his rare Buddy Holly cover

Brian Harold May CBE is an English musician, singer, songwriter, and astrophysicist who rose to prominence as the lead guitarist of Queen. With lead singer Freddie Mercury and drummer Roger Taylor, May was a co-founder of Queen.

Brian May has released a new music video and a rare Buddy Holly tribute cover ahead of the remastered re-release of his Another World solo album. The 74-year-old believes the song is the key reason he became a successful rock musician, more than any other.

Brian May, like many other rock stars who grew up in the 1950s, grew up idolizing Buddy Holly. During his brief life, the rock and roll pioneer, who sadly perished in an aircraft crash in 1959 at the age of 22, had a major impact on popular music. Now, the Queen guitarist has paid tribute to the music legend by releasing a new music video for his cover of “Maybe Baby.”

74-year-old said, “I’ve never done a Buddy Holly song, and I did Maybe Baby. That song more than probably any other is the reason that I’m here doing this, playing guitar and being a rock star and being a very fortunate person. I heard Buddy Holly make that incredible sound on his guitar that clang, singing that beautiful song, hearing those wonderful harmonies of The Crickets. And it completely motivated me. I just thought, ‘That’s what I want to do. I want to be able to make music that does that to people, makes them feel this kind of yearning, makes them feel this joy and passion.”
