ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif on Friday said that the time has come to eliminate the terrorists of Fitna-ul-Khawarij, responsible for attacks on security forces and civilians.

Shahbaz Sharif, while addressing the meeting of the Apex Committee formed for the implementation of the National Action Plan, said some Khawarij intruders were living in Pakistan especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to disturb the country’s peace.

He urged provinces, federal authorities, and institutions to devise a comprehensive plan to combat terrorism and ensure peace across Pakistan.

He also vowed to tackle the growing challenge of digital media including the fake news and misinformation on social media platforms calling it inevitable for elimination of terrorism and extremism from the country.

“On digital front, the venom against Pakistan is being spitted through social media from some elements abroad. This is also a big challenge, which is supported by distorted facts and twisted reality,” the prime minister said.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, the federal cabinet members, chief ministers of all provinces, Chief of Army Staff and other high officials.

The prime minister said that certain questions were being raised by distorting facts and twisting the reality on social media that were denting the state’s image.

“If we don’t counter this challenge, all efforts (to eliminate terrorism and extremism in the country) will go waste,” he said expressing the confidence that the government would overcome such challenges.

The prime minister recalled how fake news were spread with regard to martyrdom of personnel of Rangers on November 26.

The sacrifices of the armed forces are immense which would not go waste and Pakistan will continue its journey towards peace, stability and prosperity, he added.

PM Shehbaz Sharif on the occasion congratulated the nation as Pakistan assumed non-permanent membership of United Nation Security Council.

He pointed out that the agenda of prosperity and development was discussed in the previous day’s meeting where it was agreed that without bringing peace and stability in the country, economic development was not possible.

The government, he said was determined to completely eliminate Fitna Al-Khawarij from the country to ensure socio-economic development of the country.

The prime minister stressed that the federal government, the provinces and all relevant stakeholders in collaboration with the Pakistan security forces should make a comprehensive plan in this regard.

Govt launches media helpline for redressal of journalists complaints

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Solangi said that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MOIB) was launching the media helpline to redress the complaints of both local and foreign journalists during elections.

Addressing the helpline’s launching ceremony, he said in the present era of digital media it was imperative to upgrade and improve working.

The media-complaint application would accessible through any browser to both local and international journalists and media-persons covering the general election 2024, he added.

The minister said that the caretaker government, which was formed under Article 224 of the Constitution, helped the Election Commission of Pakistan in every way to ensure a free and transparent election within the timeframe announced by the latter.

He said only two days were left to the polling day when more than 120 million Pakistanis would exercise their right to vote.

Only people of Pakistan could choose their representatives by using their right to vote to run the affairs of the country as the preamble of the Constitution clearly “states that this country will be run by its elected representatives”, he added.

Earlier, Murtaza Solangi inaugurated the media complaint application at the Press Information Department.

This application will help the media-persons lodge complaints online quickly and efficiently through mobile phones, laptops and other devices during the coverage of election activities.

PID’s Head of Digital Media briefed the audience said that the application would not only resolve the complaints of journalists but also the staff would be deputed to address the complaints of election observers.

KARACHI: The University of Karachi launched a new four-year BS degree program in the Department of Mass Communication.

The KU is offering admissions in the BS in Digital Media Marketing course for the academic year 2024.

The KU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi inaugurated the BS DMM degree program during the ceremony held in the Sarwar Naseem Hall of the Department of Mass Communication.

Addressing the audience, the KU VC Prof Dr Khalid Iraqi said that this is one of the degree programs which have a lot of scope around the globe and this is one of the ideal courses for our youngsters.

He expressed that due to the advancement of technology and the immense development of communication means, the world has become a global village where facts cannot be hidden, and the target audience reacts and interacts immediately with each other.

He mentioned that nowadays people around the world are earning more from garbage than gold due to many reasons but we are unfortunately not utilizing it at all. He said that with creativity and honesty, one can do wonders in the digital world but they should never compromise moral values and ethics.

“The world has changed a lot and command over technology is essential for global reach, this course will benefit those who can handle computers well, know the latest trend of the web and internet, and have a good knowledge of languages.”

Prof Dr Khalid Iraqi informed the media that nothing can replace the traditional media as it is still the foundation of every platform and version of new media, and will remain the main pillar in the media industry forever.

He shared that the KU is frequently introducing new degree programs and in the last three to four years BS in Poultry Science, BS in Public Health, BS in Human Nutrition and Dietetics, BS in Medical Laboratory Technology, and also launched BS in Sports Business Management in 2023.

On this occasion, he announced that owing to the importance and usefulness of BS Digital Media Marketing, we have decided to allow students who have completed graduation to take admission in BS DMM, like students who have passed intermediate.
