Federal Govt establishes new agency to tackle cybercrime cases

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has created a new agency to address cybercrime, separate from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

A new agency named National Cyber ​​Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has been created to prevent cyber crime related crime in the country.

The notification said that the investigation agency of the NCCIA established under Section 29 of the Act, the NCCIA would exercise the powers conferred under the Act.

FIA will cease to function as an investigative agency designated under this Act, all personnel, cases, inquiries, investigations will be transferred from FIA to NCCIA.

The notification states that the government will appoint a Director General (DG) of NCCIA for a term of two years. This will be looked after by the Ministry of Home Affairs and NCCIA will be the designated agency for international cooperation.

All crimes related to cybercrime will be referred to the National Cybercrime Investigation Agency. All cases related to cybercrime will be registered and prosecuted by the NCCIA itself.

The notification states that NCCIA will have its own police stations and officers will be given special training on cyber crimes.

FIA Cyber ​​Circle Islamabad has issued a summon notice to Sher Afzal Marwat for inquiry on the complaint of Barrister Aqeel Malik.

In the notice issued by FIA, it is said that a tweet was sent from your (Sher Afzal)Twitter handle on March 9, to appear before FIA ​​Cybercrime Circle with evidence on March 18 at 10 am for inquiry.

The PTI politician had made several posts on X, formerly Twitter, on March 9 and it remains unclear as to which one of his tweets was the basis of the complaint.

One of his tweets was about his claims of being assassinated by paid assassins at Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s behest.

“It is imperative to publicly acknowledge that ‘Maryam Nawaz Sharif’ poses a threat to my life, as she has orchestrated an ‘assassination attempt against me,’ which can take place at any time,” Marwat wrote in his post on the aforementioned date.

First Cybercrime Investigation Unit established

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Police established Pakistan’s first Cybercrime Investigation Unit.

The in­auguration of Cyber Crime Inves­tigation Unit within the Pakistan police department has been offi­cially established as part of Islam­abad Police’s efforts to strengthen the fight against cybercrime.

This milestone initiative comes on the heels of amendments to the Pre­vention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), empowering Islamabad Police to register cybercrime cas­es under Section 30.

On the other hand, the technical assistance of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) will also be obtained in the investigation.

Moreover, the first phase of training of 60 officers of Islamabad Police has been completed with the support of FIA.
