PM offers sympathies to Malaysian PM over loss of lives in floods

LAHORE: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif expressed deepest sympathies on behalf of the Pakistani people for the brotherly people of Malaysia over the loss of lives and property caused by recent floods due to torrential rains in several states of the country.

The prime minister in his telephonic conversation with his Malaysian counterpart Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim, assured that the people of Pakistan stood in solidarity with their Malaysian brothers and sisters during this challenging time.

He also appreciated the swift and effective measures taken by the Malaysian government to address this natural calamity.

The prime minister offered all possible assistance to Malaysia and announced the immediate dispatch of humanitarian aid as a gesture of Pakistan’s support for its Malaysian brothers and sisters.

Referring to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s recent visit to Pakistan in October this year, PM Shehbaz expressed satisfaction with the positive momentum in bilateral relations and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.

He noted with satisfaction that most of the trade issues highlighted during the Malaysian Prime Minister’s visit to Pakistan had been successfully resolved.

The Malaysian prime minister thanked Shehbaz Sharif for Pakistan’s support and agreed that both nations needed to work together to enhance relations in all key sectors.

The two leaders also agreed to continue high-level visits. The prime minister, as well as the deputy prime minister and foreign minister, are expected to visit Kuala Lumpur early next year, a press release issued by the PM Office said.

In his post on X, the prime minister said during his conversation with the Malaysian PM he also expressed deep admiration for the swift response of the Malaysian government to this natural calamity.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also expressed heartfelt grief over loss of lives and destruction resulting from floods in Malaysia.

Malaysian PM concludes three days visit with productive outcomes

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim departed here after completing his three-day state visit to Pakistan which he said held a “great personal significance.”

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who had received Anwar Ibrahim on his arrival on Wednesday, also saw him off at the airport, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, federal cabinet members and senior officials.

During the visit, Anwar Ibrahim, accompanied by a high-level delegation of ministers, deputy ministers and senior officials, held a one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, led the delegation-level talks and held “productive discussion” with President Asif Ali Zardari.

Following the visit, the Malaysian prime minister wrote on his X timeline that the “engagements with my counterpart Shehbaz Sharif and President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari, alongside discussions with industry representatives, resulted in productive outcomes encompassing a wide array of mutual interests.”

He said that these interactions underscored the commitment of the highest leadership to enhance relations.

Both sides signed three MoUs to enhance bilateral cooperation in varying sectors. It was also agreed that Pakistan would export Halal meat worth $200 million and 100,000 tonnes of Basmati rice to Malaysia.

“Certainly, there will be increased cooperation in all areas of trade and agricultural technology including meat, rice and palm oil imports by Pakistan, and the two countries will also expand cooperation in the skilled worker sector through critical areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), digital and semiconductors,” Ibrahim added.

Prime Minister Ibrahim was also conferred the Nishan-i-Pakistan award by President Zardari in a special investiture ceremony.

Malaysian PM, COAS discuss bilateral interests, regional security

RAWALPINDI: Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim met General Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and discussed bilateral strategic interests, regional security, and defence cooperation.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim praised Pakistan Armed Forces’ role in regional peace and stability, acknowledging their professionalism and sacrifices in combating terrorism.

He emphasized on the need for increasing bilateral ties particularly military relations amongst the two brotherly countries and extended an invitation to the COAS to visit Malaysia in the same context.

COAS thanked the Prime Minister for the invitation and appreciated the successful visit to Pakistan, which will help further improve the enduring and historic ties between the two countries and the militaries.

COAS also attended the Investiture Ceremony and State Banquet held in the honour of Prime Minister of Malaysia at the Presidency.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim held a one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif wherein both sides, noting the long history of close bilateral cooperation, reaffirmed the commitment to strengthen the mutually beneficial partnership.

During the meeting, the two leaders held meaningful and outcome-oriented in-depth discussions in a “warm and cordial” atmosphere, according to a PM Office press release.

The discussion covered a wide range of bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual interest including those being faced by the Muslim Ummah. They also discussed the mechanisms to enhance bilateral cooperation to achieve concrete results in these areas.

Prime Minister Shehbaz congratulated the Malaysian prime minister on Malaysia’s upcoming Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2025.

Prime Minister Ibrahim welcomed Pakistan’s continued engagement with ASEAN as a Sectoral Dialogue Partner and expressed support for further engagement between Pakistan and ASEAN as well as Pakistan’s larger role in ASEAN.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim was given the guard of honour here as he arrived at the Prime Minister’s House to meet his counterpart Shehbaz Sharif and hold the delegation-level talks.

As he arrived at the venue of the formal welcome ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz warmly welcomed the foreign dignitary who arrived here on a three-day state visit to Pakistan.

The national anthems of Pakistan and Malaysia were played as the foreign dignitary stood at the salute dais.

The smartly turned-out contingents of the armed forces presented the guard of honor which the Malaysian prime minister reviewed.

Both the prime ministers introduced their respective delegations to each other before proceeding to the bilateral meeting and delegation-level talks.

As a tradition, Prime Minister Ibrahim also planted a sapling in the lawn of the PM House.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim are set to hold talks here today aiming to boost bilateral cooperation in multiple areas and deepen the “longstanding 67-year friendship.”

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, along with a delegation of ministers, deputy ministers and senior officials, arrived here on Wednesday for a three-day visit to meet Pakistan’s leadership and discuss a wide-ranging agenda to further strengthen bilateral ties in diverse fields including trade, connectivity, energy, agriculture, halal industry, tourism, cultural exchanges and people-to-people contacts.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who warmly welcomed the foreign dignitary at the airport, wrote on his X timeline that he looked forward to fruitful discussions on strengthening bilateral ties and deepening cooperation between the two nations.

“Your visit underscores our shared commitment to peace, prosperity and regional development. Together, let’s forge a brighter future for Pakistan and Malaysia,” Prime Minister Shehbaz added.
