Qureshi, Turkish Counterpart Eye Stable Afghanistan For Region’s Progress

Qureshi meets Turkish Foreign Minister

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a meeting with his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

During the meeting, Foreign Minister Qureshi and his Turkish counterpart discussed ways to enhance bilateral ties among the two countries and Qureshi also expressed his joy after lending his support on behalf of Pakistan to the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

Both the leaders also discussed matter related to mutual interest and the Afghan Peace Process and exchanged views following the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan.

The two foreign ministers discussed ways to mobilize the international community to help stop Indian aggression against the innocent Kashmiris.

Qureshi apprised the Turkish foreign minister of the sentiment prevailing in Pakistan in support of the Palestinian and Kashmiri people.

Pakistan wants a peaceful, independent and stable Afghanistan,” said FM Qureshi.

He further added that his country is committed to play a positive role in bringing peace to the region, including Afghanistan.

On the other hand, the Turkish Foreign Minister appreciated Pakistan’s conciliatory role in the Afghan peace process and also hinted at joint efforts to stabilize the region.

The two Foreign Ministers agreed to continue consultations for the development of bilateral relations and peace in the region.

It is pertinent to mention here that the two-day Antalya Diplomacy Forum began in the Turkish city of Antalya on Friday.

The Foreign Minister Qureshi highlighted Pakistan’s vision for regional cooperation, economic development and connectivity there.

The Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavusoglu had invited him to the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

On the sidelines, FM Qureshi held bilateral meetings with his counterparts and key regional and international partners.

FM Qureshi, Abdullah Abdullah Discuss the way forward for Afghan peace process

Qureshi meets Abdullah Abdullah

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi met with the head of the Afghan High Peace Council, Abdullah Abdullah on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

During the meeting with Abdullah Abdullah, Qureshi reaffirmed the policy of engagement across the board with Afghan political leadership to forge a deeper mutual understanding of bilateral relations and the peace process.

Both the leaders also shared their hope for Afghanistan’s leaders to expedite progress in Intra-Afghan Negotiations for lasting peace.

The foreign minister will meet the Afghan leaders on the margins of the forum to discuss the way forward for the Afghan peace process.

Earlier in the day, Shah Mahmood Qureshi has reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause.

He was talking to Palestinian Foreign Minister Dr. Riyad Al Maliki on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Turkey.

Qureshi underscored the importance of a two-state solution to the Palestine issue, based on pre-1967 borders under the relevant UNSC resolutions for sustainable peace in the region.

He also expressed strong concerns about the latest Israeli strikes against Gaza after the recent ceasefire.

The Palestinian Foreign Minister briefed Shah Mahmood Qureshi on the latest situation in Palestinian Occupied Territories.

FM Qureshi also extended an invitation to the Palestinian Foreign Minister to visit Pakistan.

Qureshi Meets His Palestinian Counterpart Ahead of Antalya Diplomacy Forum

Qureshi meets Palestinian counterpart

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who is on an official visit to Turkey to attend the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, held a meeting with his Palestinian counterpart Dr Riyad Al-Maliki on June 18.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi has presented a T-shirt with “Ay Arze Palestine Mey Bhi Hazır Hoon (O the land of Palestine I also stand with you) to the Foreign Minister of Palestine.

During the meeting, FM Qureshi reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for Palestine; for the realization of the right to self-determination and all other fundamental rights of the people of Palestine.

Earlier, Qureshi exchanged views with his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein in follow up to their meeting in Iraq last month.

Both the leaders exchanged on a diversity of bilateral relations, the Afghanistan Peace Process and the imperative for peace in Palestine.

The Foreign Minister further invited Fuad Hussein to visit Pakistan in August.

Pakistan supports partnership in trade, connectivity and economic development, through regional collaboration and multilateral cooperation.

Earlier, FM Qureshi held a telephonic discussion with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, where the two highlighted enhancing mutual Pak-Russia relations.

“Pakistan attaches special importance to its bilateral relations with Russia,” said FM Qureshi. “Strengthening of these ties, after a period of time, is welcome news,” he added.

Qureshi said Pakistan objects to endorse cooperation with Russia in multifaceted arenas, adding that Lavrov’s recent visit to Pakistan paved ties between the two countries.

“During the Russian foreign minister’s trip, various regional and global issues came under discussion,” said Qureshi.
