Qureshi, Turkish Counterpart Eye Stable Afghanistan For Region’s Progress

Qureshi meets Turkish Foreign Minister

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a meeting with his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

During the meeting, Foreign Minister Qureshi and his Turkish counterpart discussed ways to enhance bilateral ties among the two countries and Qureshi also expressed his joy after lending his support on behalf of Pakistan to the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

Both the leaders also discussed matter related to mutual interest and the Afghan Peace Process and exchanged views following the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan.

The two foreign ministers discussed ways to mobilize the international community to help stop Indian aggression against the innocent Kashmiris.

Qureshi apprised the Turkish foreign minister of the sentiment prevailing in Pakistan in support of the Palestinian and Kashmiri people.

Pakistan wants a peaceful, independent and stable Afghanistan,” said FM Qureshi.

He further added that his country is committed to play a positive role in bringing peace to the region, including Afghanistan.

On the other hand, the Turkish Foreign Minister appreciated Pakistan’s conciliatory role in the Afghan peace process and also hinted at joint efforts to stabilize the region.

The two Foreign Ministers agreed to continue consultations for the development of bilateral relations and peace in the region.

It is pertinent to mention here that the two-day Antalya Diplomacy Forum began in the Turkish city of Antalya on Friday.

The Foreign Minister Qureshi highlighted Pakistan’s vision for regional cooperation, economic development and connectivity there.

The Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavusoglu had invited him to the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

On the sidelines, FM Qureshi held bilateral meetings with his counterparts and key regional and international partners.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has emphasized the need for flexibility from Afghan leaders to the way forward for Afghan Peace Process.

Talking to the Afghanistan-based TV channel TOLO news, Qureshi said peace and stability in Afghanistan are a must for economic security and promotion of bilateral and regional trade.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi categorically rejected Taliban sanctuaries in Pakistan and said that their leadership is in Afghanistan.

“Pakistan is not responsible for the squabbling that is going on in Afghanistan,” he said.

To a question, the foreign minister said India used its presence in Afghanistan to conduct underground activities in Pakistan. He said it bothers Pakistan if Afghan soil is used against it by India.

Meanwhile, talking to his Afghan counterpart Muhammad Haneef Atmar on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi reaffirmed Pakistan’s consistent policy to strengthen bilateral relations with Afghanistan.

He stressed that close coordination is essential to further advance the bilateral relations and the Afghan peace process.

The two foreign ministers exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, including the Afghan peace process, bilateral trade and economic relations.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi reiterated his invitation to the Afghan Foreign Minister for a bilateral visit to Pakistan.

Earlier, during the meeting with Abdullah Abdullah, Qureshi reaffirmed the policy of engagement across the board with Afghan political leadership to forge a deeper mutual understanding of bilateral relations and the peace process.

Both the leaders also shared their hope for Afghanistan’s leaders to expedite progress in Intra-Afghan Negotiations for lasting peace.

During the meeting with Abdullah Abdullah, Qureshi reaffirmed the policy of engagement across the board with Afghan political leadership to forge a deeper mutual understanding of bilateral relations and the peace process.

Both the leaders also shared their hope for Afghanistan’s leaders to expedite progress in Intra-Afghan Negotiations for lasting peace.

The foreign minister will meet the Afghan leaders on the margins of the forum to discuss the way forward for the Afghan peace process.

Earlier in the day, Shah Mahmood Qureshi has reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause.

He was talking to Palestinian Foreign Minister Dr. Riyad Al Maliki on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Turkey.

Qureshi underscored the importance of a two-state solution to the Palestine issue, based on pre-1967 borders under the relevant UNSC resolutions for sustainable peace in the region.

He also expressed strong concerns about the latest Israeli strikes against Gaza after the recent ceasefire.

The Palestinian Foreign Minister briefed Shah Mahmood Qureshi on the latest situation in Palestinian Occupied Territories.

FM Qureshi also extended an invitation to the Palestinian Foreign Minister to visit Pakistan.

Moreover, the two-day Antalya Diplomacy Forum begins in the Turkish city of Antalya today (Friday).

The Foreign Minister Qureshi will highlight Pakistan’s vision for regional cooperation, economic development and connectivity there.

Javad Zarif Assures Iran’s Full Support for peace process To Afghan Counterpart

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Afghan counterpart Mohammad Haneef Atmar held a telephonic conversation to discuss the most important Afghanistan’s peace process.

Javad Zarif and Haneef Atmar discussed mutual matters and the latest developments related to Afghan Peace Process on Friday night.

During the call, the Iranian Fm said, “Democratic achievements made in Afghanistan over the past two decades should be preserved as a means to help establish sustainable peace.”

He also reiterated that Tehran fully supports an all-inclusive diplomatic process aimed at achieving peace in the war-ravaged country.

However, the Afghan foreign minister praised developing ties between Tehran and Kabul and appreciated Iran’s active role in the Afghan peace process.

Also, the top Iranian and Afghan diplomats stressed the need to promote the finalization of the two countries’ strategic cooperation.

Last year in February, the United States (US) reached a deal with the Taliban on the withdrawal of 12,000 US troops from Afghanistan in a swap for the Taliban’s paused attacks on American forces.

Previously on April 13,  US President Joe Biden had decided to pull US troops from Afghanistan by 11th September 2011, almost after 20 years.

According to sources, the withdrawal would be based on security and human rights guarantees.

On Wednesday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin are likely to brief the decision to NATO allies in Brussels.

The US President will also announce his decision publicly, added sources.

The Taliban had threatened Washington in March 2021 with dire consequences if it does not abide by the May 1 deadline for the withdrawal of US and NATO troops from Afghanistan.

Taliban delegation all set for Afghan peace talks with Iranian officials

A high-level delegation of Taliban, led by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, has arrived Iran for talks on the peace process in war-torn Afghanistan.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said the Taliban political delegation had arrived in Tehran on Tuesday morning at the invitation of the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

The spokesman added that Taliban representatives are set to meet Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Iran’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan Mohammad Ebrahim Taherian, among other officials.

The Taliban’s delegates have paid several visits to Iran over the past months.

Iran strongly supports the realization of peace and stability in neighboring Afghanistan, which has been embroiled in decades of militancy fueled by foreign military intervention.

The ongoing intra-Afghan peace process and US troop withdrawal from the war-torn country are expected to figure high during the discussions.

Taliban spokesman Mohammad Naeem said the two sides will discuss “relations between Tehran and Kabul, issues related to Afghan refugees in Iran, and prevailing political and security situation of Afghanistan and the region”.
