Earthquake in Turkey & Syria: Twitter access is being restored in Turkey

Earthquake in Turkey & Syria
  • Access to Twitter in Turkey has been restored.
  • Users were unable to use the social media site after the tragic earthquake.
  • Twitter access in the country had been banned.

According to network monitoring firm NetBlocks, access to Twitter in Turkey has been restored after users reported being unable to use the social media site following Monday’s tragic earthquake.

Earlier on Wednesday, NetBlocks, journalists, and academics claimed that Twitter access in the country had been banned. Some Twitter users requested assistance from Twitter CEO Elon Musk, using his Twitter handle in an apparent attempt to garner his attention.

Musk stated in a tweet on Wednesday that the Turkish government had notified him that the social media platform would no longer be blocked.

According to NetBlocks, traffic filtering has been implemented at the internet service provider level, prohibiting Twitter users from accessing the site.

Its announcement coincided with user reports that Twitter was unreachable throughout the country, and as President Recep Tayyip Erdogan began a tour of the earthquake-ravaged region.

Twitter outage, users are informed that they have exceeded their daily tweet limit

Twitter
  • There’s some technical issue with Twitter.
  • Account holders were notified that they had exceeded their daily Tweet limit.
  • Experts have warned that such drastic cuts could lead to technical problems.

Some Twitter users were unable to tweet on Wednesday due to technical issues with the website.

Account holders were notified that they had exceeded their daily Tweet limit.

DownDetector, a website that tracks outages, detected the incident shortly before 22:00 GMT.

Elon Musk has reduced Twitter’s personnel in recent months after purchasing the company for $44 billion (£36.5 billion) last October.

Last month, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO stated that Twitter had approximately 2,300 employees, down from approximately 8,000 when he took over.

For months, experts have warned that such drastic cuts could lead to technical problems, however, it is unclear whether the lower workforce was to blame for Wednesday’s outage.

It appears that a portion of the outage was quickly resolved, as many users reported being able to tweet again.

Twitter notified some users that they had over the 2,400-tweet-per-day limit, even though they had not posted on Wednesday.

Users had also experienced issues with Twitter messaging. Several users reported being unable to access TweetDeck, a dashboard that can be used with Twitter.

It is unknown how many people were affected.

“Twitter may not be functioning properly for some of you. Sorry for the inconvenience. We are aware of the situation and are working to resolve it “According to Twitter.

Many users have complained about issues on Twitter in recent weeks, with some believing that locking their accounts would boost the reach of their posts.

Website for technology news The Information stated that Mr. Musk had urged Twitter employees to hold on to new feature development “in lieu of enhancing system reliability and robustness, especially with the Super Bowl coming up”.

Twitter also announced that subscribers to its $8-per-month subscription service in the United States can now send longer tweets.

Subscribers to Twitter Blue can now publish up to 4,000 characters, significantly more than the 280-character limit imposed on non-paying users.

“But don’t worry, Twitter is still Twitter,” the company said in a lengthy tweet announcing the feature.

Meanwhile, DownDetector also reported an outage on YouTube, which at its peak affected a reported 65,000 users.

In a tweet, YouTube – which is owned by Google’s parent company Alphabet – said it was investigating reports that the website’s homepage “is down for some of you”.

“We’re looking into it… really sorry if you’re experiencing this,” they wrote.

Earthquake in Turkey & Syria: Musk says Turkey will re-enable full Twitter access ‘shortly’

Turkey
  • Twitter access had been banned two days after a huge earthquake.
  • The filtering is applied on major internet providers and comes as the public comes to rely on the service in the aftermath.
  • Twitter has been informed by the Turkish government that access will be re-enabled shortly.

Twitter Chief Executive Elon Musk said in a tweet on Wednesday that the firm had been informed by the government of Turkey that full access to the social media platform in the nation will be re-enabled “shortly”.

The Netblocks internet observatory, which monitors connectivity throughout the world, said earlier on Wednesday that Twitter access had been banned two days after a huge earthquake in southern Turkey and northern Syria killed thousands.

“Twitter has been informed by the Turkish government that access will be re-enabled shortly,” Musk tweeted, without providing further details on timing.

Netblocks reported earlier that, “Real-time network data show Twitter has been restricted in Turkey; the filtering is applied on major internet providers and comes as the public comes to rely on the service in the aftermath of a series of deadly earthquakes.”

Since the earthquake, Turkish residents have taken to Twitter to share information about loved ones who are unable to reach them, news of collapsed structures in the vicinity, and aid coordination.

Elon Musk was found not guilty of fraud in relation to a Tesla tweet

Elon Musk
  • Elon musk has been exonerated of wrongdoing after his tweet.
  • He might have been sentenced to pay billions of dollars in damages.
  • The nine jurors took less than two hours to decide.

Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla, has been exonerated of wrongdoing after tweeting that he had “funding secured” to take the electric carmaker private.

Mr. Musk was the target of a class-action lawsuit filed on behalf of Tesla shareholders who claimed he misled them with his August 2018 posts.

The anticipated $72 billion (£60 billion) purchase never happened.

If a jury in San Francisco judged Mr. Musk guilty, he might have been sentenced to pay billions of dollars in damages.

On Friday afternoon, the nine jurors took less than two hours to decide.

Mr. Musk, who had requested that the trial be transferred to Texas, where Tesla is based, claiming that he would not be able to have a fair problem in San Francisco, applauded the conclusion.

Taking to Twitter, the social media platform he bought for $44bn last October, he posted: “Thank goodness, the wisdom of the people has prevailed!

“I am deeply appreciative of the jury’s unanimous finding of innocence in the Tesla 420 take-private case.”

Mr. Musk’s tweet on August 7, 2018

It was essential to the lawsuit: “At $420, I’m thinking about going private with Tesla. Funding secured.”

The plaintiffs also said Mr. Musk had misrepresented when he tweeted later in the day that “investor support is confirmed”.

The stock price rose following the tweets but plummeted within days when it became evident that the deal would not be completed.

According to an analyst engaged by the shareholders, investor losses might reach $12 billion.

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filed a lawsuit against Mr. Musk for his tweets, accusing him of misleading investors. Mr. Musk agreed to step down as Tesla’s board chairman in exchange for $20 million.

During the three-week trial, Mr. Musk, who also runs SpaceX and Twitter, claimed he received a verbal commitment for sale from Saudi Arabia’s national wealth fund.

During his nearly nine hours on the witness stand, the world’s second-richest man said: “Just because I tweet something does not mean people believe it or will act accordingly.”

Shareholders had argued that “funding secured” suggested more than a verbal agreement.

Just a ‘bad tweet’?

Although Tesla’s stock price increased following the tweet, Mr. Musk questioned if his tweets had any effect on Tesla’s stock price.

“At one point, I tweeted that I thought the stock price was too high in my perspective… and it went higher, which is paradoxical,” he claimed, suggesting that the influence his tweets have on the stock price is unpredictable.

Mr. Musk stated that he eventually abandoned his proposal to take Tesla private after discussions with smaller investors led him to conclude that they preferred the company remain publicly traded.

He was not in court when the judgment was read, although he was present during closing arguments earlier that day when two portraits of him were drawn.

Nicholas Porritt, a lawyer for Tesla shareholders, said: “Our society is based on rules. We need rules to save us from anarchy. Rules should apply to Elon Musk like everyone else.”

Mr. Musk’s attorney, Alex Spiro, said: “Just because it’s a bad tweet doesn’t make it a fraud.”

Mr. Porritt stated following the decision, “We are dissatisfied with the verdict and are evaluating the next steps.”

Mr. Musk was mainly composed during his evidence, albeit he appeared irritated at points by the line of questions.

There were also lighter moments. Elon Musk changed his Twitter identity to “Mr. Tweet” because a lawyer representing shareholders unintentionally referred to him as such.

Several Tesla directors testified as well, including James Murdoch, Rupert Murdoch’s son. They said that Mr. Musk did not require the Tesla board of directors to examine buyout tweets.

Securities fraud lawyer Reed Kathrein termed the tweet about taking Tesla private “as concrete a statement of taking a company private as there can be”, and said the not-guilty finding was “a disservice to investors and the securities laws”.

Elon Musk’s Twitter is the target of legal action by King Charles Crown Estate

King Charles
  • The Crown Estate is suing Twitter for unpaid rent.
  • The company claims to have office space measuring more than 2.6 million square feet in London.
  • Twitter UK started working out of this location in 2014.

The Crown Estate, which oversees the real estate holdings owned by King Charles of Britain, is suing Elon Musk’s Twitter for unpaid rent.

The Crown Estate, a business that looks after the British monarchy’s land and assets, reportedly told AFP that it has filed a lawsuit in the High Court for unpaid rent for an office building adjacent to Piccadilly Circus.

According to a spokesman, the company has spoken with Twitter before and is currently in negotiations with them.

Twitter was purchased by billionaire Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, in October of last year for $44 billion (£35 billion).

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Twitter is being sued by its San Francisco landlord for allegedly failing to pay over $6.8 million in rent for the months of December and January.

The Crown Estate is the building’s landlord, and Air W1 on Air Street is where Twitter’s London office is located.

According to Companies House, which lists this as its registered address, Twitter UK started working out of this location in 2014.

The Crown Estate is a collection of monarchy-owned lands, buildings, and other assets that is autonomously administered.

The Treasury receives its commercial revenue, and the sovereign receives a grant each year equal to 15% of its profits, known as the Sovereign Grant.

The Crown Estate claims to be the owner of office space measuring more than 2.6 million square feet (241,550 square metres) in the heart of London.

Elon Musk gives a hug to a YouTuber

Elon Musk
  • Fifi Panayiotou, a YouTuber, was competing to be hugged by Elon Musk.
  • Fidias spent two months camped out in front of the Twitter office.
  • He finally received a hug from the Twitter CEO on January 21, which is National Hugging Day.

Fidias or Fifi Panayiotou, a YouTuber, was competing to be hugged by none other than Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Let us inform you that Fidias is a tremendous fan of Musk and went above and beyond to fulfil his aim to give him a bear hug. If doing so required months of camping outside the Twitter offices, so be it.

Fidias spent two months camped out in front of the Twitter office, posting videos on YouTube of his travels. He finally received a hug from the Twitter CEO on January 21, which is National Hugging Day.

“We are definitely living in a simulation @elonmusk! Happy National Hugging Day everyone,” Fidias tweeted on January 22. He shared a picture of himself with Musk hugging him.

Maye Musk, the mother of Elon Musk, was upset with Fidias when the YouTuber’s fans repeatedly posted spam comments on her Instagram account. Musk had only recently expressed interest and shown signs of being more receptive to the notion.

“Elon Musk is one of the most down to Earth human beings I’ve seen. He inspires me to be kind to everyone and to be a good human being,” Musk’s Twitter friend Pranay Pathole tweeted last year, along with a picture of himself and a child.

“The kids I talked to just had one request, which was to hug this guy who keeps trying to hug me in SF. I checked to see if they were sure about that and they were, so I will,” Musk replied.

Fidias had given up all hope when the unexpected occurred. Musk engaged in extensive socialising while watching a World Cup game in Qatar. This includes a youngster who pushed the YouTuber for a hug.
