Shaheen Afridi Hails His Team After Spectacular Win In First T20I

Shaheen Afridi

Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi said the team needs help in case it loses [a match or a series].

Shaheen Afridi won the Player of the Match award for figures of 3 for 30 in 3.2 overs in the twenty20 series opener against England on Friday.

“Pakistan won the first T20I by showing the best teamwork,” Shah said. “The coaches supported us in bad times and gave us confidence.”

Afridi accepted that the green shirts could not play their best during the one-day international series matches. “We played badly in the ODI series,” he said. “It was a bad time.”

“You always have to perform as a team to win,” he added.

“It was a high-scoring game with a good start by the batters and put them in the position,” Afridi said in a post-match conference. “Then the pacers bowled well.”

He said given the short boundary [of Trent Bridge Stadium, Nottingham], it was important for them to use yorkers. “We wanted to attack the batters and keep a positive mindset,” he added.

On Friday, Pakistan defeated England by 31 runs to win the T20I series opener. Shadab Khan with his three wickets, a brilliant catch at the boundary, and sharp run-out followed by Shaheen Shah’s three wickets led Pakistan to defend the total.

England’s captain Eoin Morgan put Pakistan into bat first at a batting-friendly pitch. The strong duo of Rizwan and Babar put 49 in the powerplay.

Pakistan Vs England 1st ODI: England wins by 9 Wickets

England tour to Pakistan in worries due to players security concerns

Pakistan Vs England: England registered a clinical win by thumping Pakistan in the first game of the series. Everything went well for them right from the beginning.

Saqib Mahmood set the tone by striking twice in the first over of the match and from thereon, it was all England.

Pakistan failed to recover from those blows and was always playing catch-up. Fakhar Zaman did give them some hope with his fine strokes but he didn’t last long and the touring team managed only a paltry total of 141 on the board.

Pakistan needed a miracle from their bowlers but that didn’t happen. They bowled too many extra upfront and managed to pick the solitary wicket of Phillip Salt.

Playing the role of an opener, Dawid Malan showed good hands and along with debutant Zak Crawley, he formed a century stand. Their partnership didn’t allow any sniff to Pakistan as England cruised to a commanding win.

Pakistan Vs England 1st ODI: 100 up for Three Lions

Pakistan Vs England

Pakistan Vs England: England opening batsman Dawid Malan and Philip Salt started England’s chase after finishing Pakistan’s innings on 141.

Score: 100/1 (16.0)

While the measly 142-run target may not provide a challenge to England, it appears that Pakistani fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has intended to give the hosts a hard time, as he has taken the team’s first wicket.

Phil Salt, who was caught in the slips and contributed seven runs to the chase, was dismissed by Afridi.

Pakistan was hoping for a miracle but that didn’t happen and they are just going through the motions, probably waiting for the game to end.

Pakistan Vs England: Pakistan sets target of 142 runs only

Pakistan Vs England

Pakistan Vs England: Pakistan’s ODI campaign against England started on a worrisome note, with the team struggling to post a decent score after losing four early wickets and a slew of poor efforts in between.

It was a great bowling show by Saqib Mahmood and it was good to read his thoughts. England will be thrilled by the way they bowled with their inexperienced unit. Mahmood set the tone very nicely by striking twice in his opening over.

Imam, Babar, and Rizwan were sent packing very early and the cream of the Pakistan batting was removed in a flash.

Fakhar Zaman though chose to bat with a lot of authority and played some extravagant shots. His partnership with Sohaib Maqsood tried to revive the innings but the unfortunate run out of the latter once again put the visitors off the track.

The biggest blow came to them in the form of Fakhar’s wicket and after that, it went downhill. Shadab Khan’s 30 helped them to get close to the 150-run mark but overall, it was a dismal show with the willow for the Men in Green.

It’s a below-par total that Pakistan has managed on the board. They do have a quality bowling attack at their disposal but there are not enough runs on the board.

Pakistan Vs England 1st ODI: 8 Down as Pakistan struggle in Cardiff

Pakistan Vs England

Pakistan Vs England: Pakistan’s ODI campaign against England has started on a shaky note, with the team struggling to put up a decent score after losing four early wickets and some unimpressive performances.

Score: 124/8 (After 30 Overs)

After a review conducted by Stokes proved the ball had pitched in line, Mahmood had Imam-ul-Haq lbw with the opening ball of the match.

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, the world’s top-ranked ODI batsman, was dismissed for a duck two balls later when he edged to Zak Crawley at second slip, leaving the tourists 0-2.

When Mohammad Rizwan edged a magnificent late-moving delivery from Lewis Gregory to debutant wicketkeeper John Simpson, he made 13 runs.

With 3-21 in four overs, Mahmood had Pakistan debutant Saud Shakeel lbw for five with a ball that angled in.

Saud Shakeel was also dismissed for five runs by Saqib Mahmood.

After a meager total of 19 runs, Shoaib Maqsood was the next to fall for a run out.

Fakhar Zaman was putting in a respectable performance, salvaging the guests’ faint hopes, but that, too, came to an end when the batsman was bowled for 47 runs by Matt Parkinson.

Earlier in the opening ODI match of the three-day series in Cardiff, the hosts won the toss and chose to bowl against Pakistan.

Muhammad Wasim announced Pakistan squad for England, West Indies tour

Pakistan Cricket Board

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selector (Muhammad Wasim) has included four experienced players and included uncapped Azam Khan in the squad for England and West Indies tour.

Wasim has included four experienced players and included uncapped Azam Khan in the squads for the tours of England and the West Indies. Pakistan will play three ODIs and as many T20Is in England from 8th July to 20th July, before taking on world champions West Indies in five T20Is that will be followed by two Tests.

Middle-order batsman ‘Haris Sohail’ has been named in the ODI side, however, Imad Wasim has returned to the T20 side. Fast bowlers Mohammad Abbas and Naseem Shah have returned to the Test side.

Yasir Shah would be included according to his fitness as he is yet to fully recover from the knee injury that sidelined him from the Zimbabwe Tests.

Wasim has retained leg-spinner ‘Zahid Mahmood’ along with left-arm spinner ‘Nauman Ali’ and off-spinner ‘Sajid Khan’ for the Jamaica Tests.

Uncapped ‘Saud Shakeel’ has also reclaimed his spot after missing South Africa ODIs due to an injury. ‘Salman Ali Agha’ is also included for ODIs who have lost their Test spot.

‘Fakhar Zaman’ has maintained his place in the original squad after being drafted as an additional player for Zimbabwe T20Is following a stellar performance in South Africa.

Quetta Gladiator’s ‘Azam Khan’, 22, hard-hitting batsman, is the new face in the T20I squad.

ODI Squad: Babar Azam (captain), Shadab Khan (vice-captain), Abdullah Shafique, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, Haris Sohail, Hasan Ali, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan (wicketkeeper), Salman Ali Agha, Sarfaraz Ahmed (wicketkeeper), Saud Shakeel, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Usman Qadir.

T20I Squad: Babar Azam (captain), Shadab Khan (vice-captain), Arshad Iqbal, Azam Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan (wicketkeeper), Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Sarfaraz Ahmed (wicketkeeper), Shaheen Shah Afridi, Sharjeel Khan, and Usman Qadir.

Test Squad: Babar Azam (captain), Mohammad Rizwan (wicketkeeper) (vice-captain), Abdullah Shafique, Abid Ali, Azhar Ali, Faheem Ashraf, Fawad Alam, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Imran Butt, Mohammad Abbas, Mohammad Nawaz, Naseem Shah, Nauman Ali, Sajid Khan, Sarfaraz Ahmed (wicketkeeper), Saud Shakeel, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shahnawaz Dahani, Yasir Shah (subject to fitness) and Zahid Mahmood.

Wasim said, “We have remained consistent in our selection and kept the same core of cricketers who have been in the set-up for a while. This is an extremely important and critical tour for Pakistan as we will be playing the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League ODIs against England as well as the T20Is against England and the West Indies as part of our preparations for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The Jamaica Test will count towards the ICC World Test Championship.

“As such, keeping in view the above and in consultation with captain Babar Azam and head Misbah-ul-Haq, we have tried our best to maintain the winning combinations but at the same time recalled four experienced players and rewarded uncapped Azam Khan for his domestic performance, while also giving him the required confidence for the future challenges.

“Mohammad Abbas has regained his form, Naseem Shah and Haris Sohail have reclaimed the required fitness standards, while Imad Wasim has been recalled considering the T20 World Cup is likely to be held in the UAE and he enjoys an excellent record there.

“The return of these four players meant we had to leave some players, which is never an easy decision. But we have collectively opted for what was in the best interest of the side, taking into consideration the opponents and the requirement of the formats on the upcoming tours.

“The players who have missed on selection will remain part of our strategy, and, as such, they will continue to work on their technical game at the National High-Performance Centre under the watchful eyes of Mohammad Yousuf and Saqlain Mushtaq.

“Yasir Shah’s inclusion is subject to clearing his fitness test. He was sidelined due to a knee injury after the second Test against South Africa earlier this year and was expected to reclaim complete fitness for the West Indies tour. It, however, has not been the case, but we remain hopeful that he will complete his rehabilitation before the departure.

“The side since the home series against South Africa has maintained an upward movement, but still there are a few loose ends that we would like to close by the end of the England and West Indies tours so that there is absolute clarity on our compositions for the post-West Indies tour engagements.

“I strongly believe the changes will plug those gaps and will put us in a strong position in our endeavors to feature in the top three across all formats by the end of 2023.”

Tour schedule:
25 June – Departure for Manchester
6 July – Arrival in Cardiff
8 July – 1st ODI, Sophia Gardens, Cardiff

Moin Khan got emotional after his son selected in national team squad

Moin Khan got emotional after his son selected in national team squad

Moin Khan, 49, gave credit to the entire team management for the selection of his son (Azam Khan) in the national team squad.

On Friday, a video released by the ‘Quetta Gladiators’ official YouTube channel, in which Pakistan’s former wicketkeeper-batsman Moin Khan, reacted to the selection of hard-hitting Azam in the national squad by stating that it was a big achievement for the Quetta Gladiators franchise.

Muhammad Wasim announced the Pakistan squad for England, West Indies tour in which he included uncapped Azam Khan in the national team.

Moin the head coach of Quetta Gladiators, credited the entire team management for his son’s selection in the national cricket team.

He said, “The first thing is that a player from the Quetta Gladiators side is making his way into the national team. Which is a big thing for me as the head coach and our entire Quetta Gladiators family. I think the most credit should go to Nadeem Omar [Quetta’s owner] who picked Azam Khan for the first time. Nobody picked him and nobody could identify this talent and he picked him purely based on merit and talent”.

He further said, “The way Azam Khan has performed in different leagues throughout the world and the PSL was how he made his place in the side. As the head coach of Quetta Gladiators, I am very happy. Our entire team management deserves praise for this achievement because it is because of everyone’s effort. Naturally, the efforts of the player are important but motivation comes from the team management and individuals playing different roles in the side. I think this is a big achievement for the Quetta Gladiators team”.

Moin thanked Allah for his son’s selection and revealed that his entire family was really happy with Azam’s selection in the team.

He said, “As a father, all my prayers are for him. I am grateful to Allah. The second generation of our family will be stepping in for Pakistan. Naturally, the pressure and responsibility are bound to increase along with the expectations of Azam Khan. To maintain it and improve he will have to work extra hard. This is a big reward from Allah if your passion becomes your profession and ultimately you get what you have wished for”.

He concluded, “Every kid who has played cricket in the country wants to represent Pakistan but staying in the national side is a very hard task. You need to work hard and have to sustain a place on the side based on merit. As a father, I and my entirely are happy that Azam Khan got selected”.
