Chinese deputy minister urges SCO states to play their part

ISLAMABAD: While addressing the 23rd meeting of ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), China’s Vice Minister of Commerce urged all SCO states to play their role.

He shed light on the importance of pushing the organization to a more active state for the growth of regional trade while expressing China’s high regard for its trade relations with SCO states.

The deputy minister acknowledged SCO as an important forum for interconnectivity and trade.

He also talked about China’s role in regional connectivity and the importance of the digital economy.

ISLAMABAD: Leader of Opposition, Senator Syed Shibli Faraz called the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), as a lifeline for Pakistan’s development and future growth.

He remarked, while addressing the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.The event was organised by the Pakistan-China Institute.

Senator Syed Shibli Faraz praised China’s policy of Reform and Opening-Up, which has propelled it to become the world’s second-largest economy and stressed the relevance of these principles for Pakistan’s economic and social development.

Emphasising the deep-rooted and enduring friendship between Pakistan and China, highlighting it as a model of bilateral relations built on mutual respect and shared goals, he reaffirmed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) commitment to this vital relationship, noting its importance not only in terms of bilateral cooperation but also as a cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy.

Acknowledging China’s pivotal role in global affairs, particularly within the Global South, and expressed support for China’s vision of a multipolar world, he highlighted China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) as a transformative project with the potential to reshape global trade routes and foster the economic cooperation.

Senator Syed Shibli Faraz reiterated PTI’s commitment to strengthening Pakistan-China relations and working closely with Chinese counterparts to explore new avenues of cooperation.

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari called for collaborative efforts by the Eastern nations to ensure sustainable development and common prosperity through China’s Global Development Initiative (GDI).

He highlighted that GDI had great potential to significantly shape the future of the world by promoting shared development and urged the developing countries to play a leading role in the global development process.

The president expressed these views while virtually addressing the 2nd High-level Meeting of the Forum on Global Action for Shared Development, organized by the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), in Beijing, President Secretariat Press Wing said in a press release.

Representatives of foreign countries, international organisations, foreign companies and non/ governmental organisations attended the event.

In his statement, President Zardari underscored the importance of viewing global challenges such as progress, development, and health, from an Eastern perspective.

He pointed out that most of the global population lived in the Eastern hemisphere, particularly in countries like China, Pakistan, and other neighbouring nations.

The President emphasized that Pakistan was eager to see President Xi Jinping and the People’s Republic of China spearheading GDI, leading the East and the entire world into the new millennium.

It is worth stating that through the Global Development Initiative (GDI), China aims to help accelerate the implementation of the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and solve the dilemma of global development.

China is collaborating with global partners to speed up the implementation of GDI by enlarging its Friend Circle, mobilizing resources, and building capacities for shared prosperity.

ISLAMABAD: China’s Minister of Central Committee of the International Department of Communist Party of China (IDCPC), Liu Jianchao on Friday said as its “iron brother and time-tested friend”, China accorded a special place to Pakistan in its foreign policy and desired to strengthen the all-weather strategic cooperative partnership.

The senior Chinese leader expressed these views in a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, held here in  Islamabad.

Liu expressed satisfaction at the steady pace of the Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and said China would extend full cooperation to Pakistan for the timely implementation of all ongoing and new CPEC projects.

He also lauded the political parties of Pakistan for their steadfast support of CPEC and China-Pakistan friendship.

He reiterated China’s keen desire to enhance further linkages between the Communist Party of China and the political parties of Pakistan.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar appreciated the positive contribution of CPEC to Pakistan’s socioeconomic development, progress, and prosperity.

He underscored that as the flagship project of President China’s Belt and Road Initiative, CPEC had led to a major transformation in energy security.

Lauding the unanimous political consensus on CPEC in the two countries, Dar expressed Pakistan’s firm resolve to build upon the achievements of CPEC and its high-quality development in Phase II.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that his recent five-day visit to China remained successful as a high-powered Chinese delegation would visit Pakistan soon.

The prime minister, chairing the meeting of the federal cabinet, told the members that the collective efforts by his team including the federal ministers and federal secretaries came to fruition and that the visit was a great opportunity to strengthen the Pakistan-China bilateral relations.

He said that despite the security issue highlighted during the engagements with the Chinese leadership and business community, the visit concluded with a “positive note.”

“I can say unequivocally that the visit ended with a positive note. During the conversation with the Chinese ambassador at the banquet hosted by the Communist Party Secretary during my visit to Shanxi province, I got a deep feeling that the visit reminded very successful,” Prime Minister Shehbaz remarked while apprising the cabinet members of his visit.

The prime minister thanked all of his cabinet members particularly Ishaq Dar, Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Dr Musaddik Malik and Shaza Fatima Khawaja, and relevant federal secretaries for their collective efforts which led to the success of the visit.

PM visits historical Chinese Terracotta Warriors Museum in Xi’an

XI’AN: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, accompanied by the Pakistani delegation visited the historical site of China, Terracotta Warriors Museum on Saturday.

The visit was part of an invitation extended by the Chinese President Xi Jinping to the prime minister to visit the museum in his hometown, Xi’an.

During the visit the prime minister and the delegation were briefed on the preservation and restoration of historical heritage and the promotion of tourism. PM Shehbaz, who is on a five-day official visit to China, visited various sections of the museum and commended the beauty of ancient Chinese heritage and the skill of Chinese artisans.

“Great nations protect and take care of their historical assets like the Chinese do”, he said adding that the skill of the Chinese craftsmen of 200 BC was admirable.

The prime minister also appreciated the Chinese government’s efforts in preserving and restoring the historical site saying that Pakistan was also rich in historical and cultural heritage.

He said the government would also restore and promote its own historical sites as tourist destinations. He also thanked the President Xi for inviting him to visit the museum.
