Lioness on the Loose in Germany Revealed to be Wild Boar

Lioness on the Loose in Germany Revealed to be Wild Boar

A 30-hour search in the outskirts of Berlin was sparked by a suspected lioness on the loose, causing panic among residents. Police and wildlife authorities went on high alert in Kleinmachnow and southwestern suburbs after an unclear video seemingly showed a lioness roaming near trees. However, the frenzy came to an end as officials now confirm that the animal in question was, in fact, a wild boar.

After careful analysis by wildlife experts, it was determined that the creature spotted in Germany was not a lioness, but rather a wild boar. The experts identified specific characteristics, such as the tail, round back, and elongated head, which pointed to the animal being a wild pig and not a big cat.

Despite extensive efforts, including the use of drones, helicopters, sniffer dogs, and heat-seeking cameras, no evidence of a lioness was found during the search. Even a late-night roaring sound, initially thought to be from the elusive lioness, turned out to be a prank carried out by mischievous teenagers using a Bluetooth speaker.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of verifying information before initiating large-scale responses. With no confirmed lioness on the loose, authorities have officially called off the search, providing relief to Berlin residents. The authorities have assured the public that all registered lions in the state of Brandenburg have been accounted for.

Vladimir Putin says Germany remains “occupied”

Vladimir Putin
  • Vladimir Putin said Germany’s reaction to the North Sea pipeline accident demonstrated that the country was still “occupied.”
  • The pipelines were supposed to transport Russian gas to Germany.
  • He also said that European politicians had been browbeaten into surrendering their feeling of sovereignty and independence.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Germany’s reaction to the North Sea pipeline accident demonstrated that the country was still “occupied” and unable to act autonomously decades after its capitulation at the conclusion of World War II.

In an interview with Russian television, Putin also said that European politicians had been browbeaten into surrendering their feeling of sovereignty and independence.

Western countries, particularly Germany, have reacted gingerly to probes into the explosives that struck Russia‘s Nord Stream gas pipelines last year, stating they believe the blasts were intentional but declining to name who they suspect was responsible.

“The matter is that European politicians have said themselves publicly that after World War Two, Germany was never a fully sovereign state,” sources quoted Putin.

“The Soviet Union at one point withdrew its forces and ended what amounted to an occupation of the country. But that, as is well known, was not the case with the Americans. They continue to occupy Germany.”

Putin informed the interviewer that the explosions were carried out on a “state level,” dismissing as “complete nonsense” accusations that an autonomous pro-Ukraine group was to blame.

The pipelines were supposed to transport Russian gas to Germany, but Berlin has made steps to minimize its reliance on Russian hydrocarbons since Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine a year ago.

Authorities in Berlin have been circumspect about apportioning responsibility for the explosives, with Defence Minister Boris Pistorius stating last week the blasts could have been a “false-flag operation to blame Ukraine”.

Germany: Police spoke to gunman weeks before attack in Hamburg

Germany
  • Philipp F had a permit to possess the weapon for sports purposes.
  • The gunman was seen on video firing through a glass.
  • Seven people were killed in Thursday’s attack.

A man who killed seven people in Germany was visited by police last month after a tip raised concerns about his mental state.

He cooperated with officers, and there were not enough grounds to take away his pistol at the time, according to police.

The 35-year-old suspect, identified only as Philipp F, had a permit to possess the weapon for sports purposes.

According to the interior minister, the country is preparing a new law that will tighten restrictions on gun ownership.

Seven people were killed in Thursday’s attack at a Jehovah’s Witness meeting hall in the city, including an unborn baby.

The initial emergency contact came in at 21:04 local time (20:04 GMT) reporting shots fired, and officers arrived four minutes later.

The gunman was seen on video firing through a glass. He then rushed to the premises, where hundreds of people had gathered, blasting nine magazines of ammo before turning the rifle on himself when police arrived.

A woman who was seven months pregnant was among the eight injured. She lived, but her unborn child died.

According to Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the death toll could grow.

According to German Senator Andy Grote, “fast and decisive” steps” by police personnel saved several lives. He called the incident the “worst crime” in recent Hamburg history.

Officials said the suspect had “ill feelings” towards the religious community, of which he had previously been a member before leaving “on bad terms”.

Jehovah’s Witnesses are members of a Christian-based religious movement that began in the United States around the close of the nineteenth century.

According to the movement’s most recent report from 2022, there are over 8.7 million Jehovah’s Witnesses worldwide, with approximately 170,000 in Germany. There are thought to be about 4,000 members in Hamburg.

On Friday, Hamburg Police Chief Ralf Martin Meyer said officers visited the man in February after they received an anonymous letter claiming he “bore particular anger toward religious believers, in particular toward Jehovah’s Witnesses”.

The letter also said he “might be suffering from a mental illness, although it had not been medically diagnosed”.

Police said he was cooperative and had an open conversation with the officers. “The bottom line is that an anonymous tip in which someone says they’re worried a person might have a psychological illness, isn’t in itself a basis for [such] measures,” Chief Meyer said.

Forensic experts worked at the scene of the shooting on Deelböge street through the night but have since left the area.

Floral tributes have been laid near the front entrance by mourners. One man, cradling his young son and daughter, told the BBC that he tried to return home last night but was stopped by police armed with assault rifles.

Germany already has some of Europe’s tightest gun rules, including a requirement that anybody under the age of 25 undergo a psychological evaluation before obtaining a license.

According to the National Firearms Registration, there will be approximately one million private gun owners in Germany by 2021. They are responsible for 5.7 million legal firearms and firearm parts, the majority of which are owned by hunters.

Following major arrests in December in connection with an alleged coup plan, German authorities have been under pressure to tighten the country’s firearms restrictions even more.

Germany: shooting occurred at Jehovah’s Witness hall

Germany
  • According to reports, 6 dead and a number of people injured in shooting.
  • According to police, the gunman acted alone and is presumed dead.
  • Police discovered a dead person at the scene who they believe was a perpetrator.

A number of people were killed in a shooting at a Jehovah’s Witness meeting hall in Hamburg, Germany.

According to police, the gunman acted alone and is presumed dead. It is unclear whether the attacker is one of the six or seven people killed, as reported by German media.

As yet, “there is no reliable information on the motive”, police say.

The shooting on Deelböge street in the city’s Gross Borstel district also injured several people.

Police say they discovered a dead person at the scene who they believe was a perpetrator, and that their investigation is ongoing.

Police were called around 21:15 (20:15 GMT) to reports of shots fired in the building, according to police spokesman Holger Vehren.

Officers who went in found people who “may have been seriously injured by firearms, some of them fatally”, he said.

“The officers also heard a shot from the upper part of the building and went upstairs, where they also found a person. So far we have no indications that any perpetrators fled.”

He stated that police had not yet identified the victims and that work at the crime scene was ongoing.

“All we know is that several people have died here, several people have been injured, they have been taken to hospitals,” Mr Vehren said.

The reasons behind the shooting were “still completely unclear”.

An alert was sent on the federal warning app, NINAwarn, at around 21:00 (20:00 GMT) telling locals that “one or more unknown perpetrators shot at people in a church”.

Residents in the area were told not to leave their homes while the police operation was ongoing.

Footage showed police escorting people out of the meeting hall, some of whom were being taken to ambulances.

Andy Grote, the Interior Minister of Hamburg, announced on Twitter that police special forces and a large number of officers had been dispatched to the scene.

The police have urged the public not to make assumptions or spread rumours.

Jehovah’s Witnesses are a Christian-based religious organisation.

The denomination was founded in the United States near the end of the nineteenth century by Charles Taze Russell. The movement’s headquarters are in New York.
